Among those killed was Mikhail Ivanov, head of the Zaporizhzhia branch of Russia's Main Radio Frequency Center and a former Russian military officer. Two of his children also died.

France is developing the Airbus A321 MPA(Maritime Patrol Aircraft), with the first 3 aircraft operational by 2035. Based on the A321XLR, the “flying frigate” will conduct anti-submarine warfare, anti-ship strikes and intelligence missions using:

- Active and passive sonobuoys for submarine tracking
- Electro-optical sensors for visual identification and targeting
- Electronic-warfare systems for signal interception and jamming
- Magnetic-anomaly detection for locating submerged submarines
- Satellite communications for real-time data sharing and coordination
- Advanced mission systems for multi-domain maritime surveillance

Up to 1,500 troops are supporting firefighters, evacuating civilians and protecting abandoned homes, while Army engineers use bulldozers and heavy equipment to carve firebreaks and block the flames approaching Bordeaux and strategic sites linked to the Rafale, M51 nuclear missile and Ariane programmes.
After days of uncontrolled expansion, the main Gironde fire did not advance overnight and the situation is now broadly stable but authorities warn that it is still not contained and could reignite as temperatures rise again.
