France is developing the Airbus A321 MPA(Maritime Patrol Aircraft), with the first 3 aircraft operational by 2035. Based on the A321XLR, the “flying frigate” will conduct anti-submarine warfare, anti-ship strikes and intelligence missions using:

- AESA radar for long-range surface and air detection
- Active and passive sonobuoys for submarine tracking
- Electro-optical sensors for visual identification and targeting
- Electronic-warfare systems for signal interception and jamming
- Magnetic-anomaly detection for locating submerged submarines
- Satellite communications for real-time data sharing and coordination
- Advanced mission systems for multi-domain maritime surveillance

Its weapons will include:

- Lightweight torpedoes for anti-submarine warfare
- The future FMAN anti-ship missile for long-range naval strike capability
