Ukraine is buying the first 16 Rafales from France — but still wants all 100.

The first tranche will be funded through the EU Ukraine Support Loan, with Ukraine intending to fully exercise the 100-jet order volume agreed with France in 2025.

Package includes:

• 16 Rafale fighters
• AASM glide bombs
• MICA air-to-air missiles
• METEOR long-range air-to-air missiles
• laser-guided anti-drone rockets
• associated equipment and training

The anti-drone weapon is likely the French Aculeus-LG, a 68mm laser-guided SNEB rocket — basically APKWS, but French.

The catch: it is not produced at anything like APKWS scale, so it is more expensive and less abundant.

👨‍✈️ Pilot and technician training is expected to start before the end of 2026.

The first 4 jets should arrive after training is complete — likely around 2028/2029.

🇫🇷 France will also loan, not donate, 2 SAMP/T batteries to Ukraine until Ukraine receives 2 new SAMP/T NG batteries bought through the same European loan mechanism.
