⚡️🇲🇲 AP: More than 500 Rohingya refugees are feared dead after two boats reportedly capsized in the Bay of Bengal, according to the UNHCR and IOM.

One boat carrying around 250 people disappeared shortly after departing Myanmar’s Rakhine State, while another carrying about 280 people is believed to have sunk off the Ayeyarwady coast.

If confirmed, it would be one of the deadliest maritime disasters involving Rohingya refugees in recent years.

This is likely due to the Arakan Army

All of the Rohingya's ethnic homelands are currently under Arakan Army control

The Arakan Army is made up of ethnic Rakhine/Arakanese/Arakha - so the people behind the Rohingya genocide.

The Arakan Army has committed numerous crimes against the small remaining Rohingya community that hasn't fled yet.

During the battle of Maungdaw, a town in northern Rakhine which had somewhat of a remaining Rohingya population the Arakan Army shelled a large group of Rohingya civilians fleeing the battle on foot.

Ever since the Arakan Army has seized control over the lands in which the Rohingya live/used to live they have also been systematically burning down remaining Rohingya villages. It's well documented by satellite imagery. It happened after battles had ended in the area and was a systematic effort.

The villages lucky enough not to get burned down still get harassed by AA recruiters who wanna take their sons as canon fodder or steal shit.

Overall very understandable why you would flee in this situation. If the Arakan Army doesn't change it's treatment of the Rohingya anytime soon they will likely soon go extinct inside Myanmar and be an exclusively diaspora ethnicity
