Meteor is arguably the best long-range A2A missile for Ukraineโs specific scenario: a low-flying shooter engaging a higher-altitude Russian aircraft. Unlike AMRAAM, which rely on a single-pulse rocket motor and then coast, Meteorโs throttleable ramjet provides sustained thrust deep into the engagement. That means it retains far more energy during an uphill shot. Meteor also has greater range than early AMRAAM C variants under optimal launch conditions.

According to reports, three tankers from Russia's "shadow fleet" were attacked by naval drones 2โ3 km off the coast of Turkey. Two drones struck the tanker Velora but failed to detonate, while a third hit the vessel JAMES II. The Altura, which had already been attacked in March while carrying Russian oil, was also damaged.
