A few weeks after the war began, company executives met with Pentagon officials and reported that the military was paying $5,000 per terminal for a service that costs $25,000.
SpaceX argued that the drone service was in line with its more expensive aviation subscription, not a cheaper ground or mobile service. The Pentagon, however, said that the $25,000 price tag was designed for aircraft, not for drones that use the internet for only a few minutes or hours.
The military eventually agreed to pay the higher price. This nearly doubled the cost of each LUCAS drone from $30,000.
