The largest aircraft carrier in the world, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) is preparing to depart the Caribbean following recent operations and is now expected to head toward the Middle East as part of "Carrier Strike Group 12" (CSG-12).
The carrier will deploy with a full multirole combat air wing which include:
~ 48× F/A-18E/F "Super Hornets" 4.5th+ gen multirole fighter jet.
~ 5× EA-18G "Growlers" - electronic warfare & jamming (EW)
~ 4× E-2D "Advanced Hawkeye" airborne early warning and control (AEW&C)
The carrier will also be escorted by guided missile destroyers from "Destroyer Squadron 2" which include:
• USS Mahan (DDG-72) - ×90 "Mk-41" VLS cells
• USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG-81) - ×96 "Mk-41" VLS cells
• USS Bainbridge (DDG-96) - ×96 "Mk-41" VLS cells
In total these ships field 282 vertical launch system (VLS) capable of firing SM-2, SM-3/SM-6s missiles that provides advanced multi layer air defence coverage for the entire fleet, as well as BGM-109 "Tomahawk" land-attack cruise missiles, and anti-submarine warfare coverage.
A "major US naval armada" is now forming in the region as described by Donald Trump.
