The Swiss 🇨🇭 company "S2A Systems" observed the Russian recon satellite "Luch" when it suddenly disintegrated in orbit.

There's no explanation besides the possibility of the satellite "self destructing" or being hit by space debris and micro meteorites as according to analysts, the satellite disintegrated into a large number of fragments as a result of a collision with space debris on January 30, 2026.

The "Luch" spacecraft was launched into orbit in September 2014, and was known for its unusual and erratic behaviour of "chasing" and "positioning" itself behind known orbits of foreign satellites and remain so for a long period of time.
