🏁 The final whistle doesn't just mark the end of a game; it can signal the start of a whole new challenge for athletes.

🔹After retiring, many athletes face a tough transition. The income tap turns off, and they lose the support system that clubs provide.

🔹Despite their earnings, financial struggles can loom large. Studies show that 1 in 3 athletes face divorce within a year of retirement.

🔹Mental health concerns also weigh heavy. The loss of a career can be like losing a part of oneself. FIFPro estimates that 35% of retired athletes encounter depression and anxiety.

🔹Planning for retirement often takes a back seat until it's right around the corner.

🔛 One Two One Two isn't about skills on the field; it's exactly about life skills. How can we better prepare athletes for life beyond the game? What solutions can we offer to ease this transition? 💭

1️⃣Share your experience. Neville was open about seeking help from a sports psychologist and sharing the lessons he learned from this experience. This has helped others facing similar challenges.
2️⃣Ask yourself a series of questions. Like Neville did, ask yourself questions like “Can I expect every day to be a good day?” This will help you understand that challenges are normal and can be overcome.
3️⃣Learn and move on. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Learn from your mistakes and try to do better in the future.

🔹Facing challenges is not easy, but it is not impossible. Neville’s story shows that you can find the strength you need to overcome challenges within yourself.

🚫What happens to individuals who don't "make it" in football, and does it effectively prepare them for life and alternative careers?
There are around 3,500 boys in Premier League academies alone. Kofi Anokye-Boadi, 20, is a member of London's football youth development system. He grew up in a Peckham council estate and saw football as a method of escape. At the London Youth Games, he played alongside Arsenal's Reiss Nelson and Jadon Sancho, one of the world's greatest young players. Kofi was scouted by two separate academies to play for them. At 14, he lost his father to cancer and struggled with football, as well as the added strain of having to provide for his mother.He believes that academies can be uncaring places at times. "They expect you to 'grow up, man up' when you're on the field, when you get fouled -'man up, it's not that hard, it's not that bad.'" But for some of us, it's more than just a'man up' issue.
⭐Sometimes it's a case of I'm going through something here and need some assistance. I understand that it's a very male game with tough competition, but it's not always easy for some of us mentally. Sometimes all you need is an arm over your shoulders."
