The Ethiopian Space Science Society and the IAU Office of Astronomy for Education conducted a two-day long Astronomy Training for Elementary Teachers on the properties and features of the Sun, the Moon, Scale of the solar system, the Universe, and navigating the sky and stargazing.
The workshop had several hands-on experiments as most of these experiments allowed the teachers to have an experiential teaching-learning process.
The ESSS will continue working with international entities like the IAU - OAE as such workshops foster the space frontier in Ethiopia.

ESSS organized Teachers Training Programme 2023 at Jigjiga University
In a collaborative effort, ESSS, the Office of Astronomy for Education, Jigjiga University, ESSS Jigjiga Branch Association, and Network for Astronomy School Education jointly organized the Teacher Training Programme 2023 last weekend. This intensive two-day training program delved into a wide range of topics, from fundamental physics concepts to advanced astronomy domains, with a specific focus on hands-on activities tailored for high school and university teachers. Trainees also participated in engaging sungazing and stargazing activities. Additionally, a dedicated session introduced participants to astronomy software applications, equipping them with the tools to navigate the night sky digitally.
This training aimed to empower teachers with a deeper understanding of astronomy, enabling them to effectively educate students and foster interest in astronomy among the next generation of Ethiopians.
