The approach taken by the US powerhouse JP Morgan for its Chase banking app illustrates the dramatic changes taking place on Britain’s high streets. Almost half of bank branches have closed in the past five years — leaving only 5,300, according to consumer group Which? — and the use of cash has plummeted during the pandemic. One in four people used cash once a month, or even less frequently, as Covid-19 took hold last year."
