Pakistan warns TikTok video service, blocks Bigo Live app

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan has threatened China’s TikTok and blocked the Singapore-based Bigo Live streaming platform, citing what the regulating authority called widespread complaints about “immoral, obscene and vulgar” content on the apps.

The move was promptly decried by Pakistani rights activists who saw it as a potential precursor to an even greater censorship in this conservative Muslim nation.

In a statement, the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority said the content on the two platforms could have “extremely negative effects on the society in general and youth in particular,” without elaborating.

PTA denies being responsible for disruption in Amazon Web Services

Since a few days there have been speculations circulating on social media platforms that PTA is responsible for the disruption in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) faced by some users. Some have even connected the issue with that of the recent ban on PUBG.

In response to these PTA issued an official statement today denying that the two are connected and that the authority has anything to do with the disruption.

“The ban on PUBG is in place since 10 July whereas AWS users faced issues reportedly on 23 July. Complaints received by operators from AWS users also show that they experienced intermittent accessibility issues and not complete blocking of AWS IPs or services. Furthermore, this phenomenon was not specific to Pakistan only but users in other countries including United States also experienced similar issues. PTA has already clarified the matter through its social media accounts as well when this trend was first seen on social media.”

#Pakistan citizens queuing for the jabs after their government scheduled the SIMs of the unvaccinated to be switched off.

Very sad they gave in to the pressure but in a way it’s understandable, since it won’t be easy to be without access to the internet and everything needed in our phones.

That said what chance do we have if we give in to the government’s threats and tyranny?
