Naver transfers Hong Kong backup data to Singapore
The South Korean search giant denied allegations that its sensitive user data stored abroad was at risk.
South Korea's Naver said on its official blog page that it has moved user backup data that was stored in Hong Kong to Singapore.
The data in Hong Kong was destroyed between July 6 to 10 and the server that was used to store it has been rebooted, the company said.
The company's move comes shortly after China introduced stringent, new national security laws that are aimed at tightening Beijing's control over the territory.
The decision to transfer backup data to Singapore was also in response to allegations made by local media that Naver's sensitive user data stored in Hong Kong was at risk of being leaked and that the Chinese government could access the data at any time.

Singapore's Universal Studios deploys facial recognition for entry
SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Visitors to Universal Studios in Singapore will now have to pass through facial recognition scanners to enter the park, in the city-state’s latest foray with a technology that has stoked privacy concerns.
Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), which owns the sprawling area of tourist attractions, hotels and restaurants in which the park sits, said the scheme which started this month would help smooth access for guests.
“Facial recognition provides contactless verification of tickets and ticket holders, enabling our customers to enjoy our park experience in a more efficient and seamless manner,” RWS said in an emailed statement.

UK firm to power face verification in Singapore's digital identity system
British firm iProov inks deal to provide face verification technology used in Singapore's national digital identity system, enabling four million users to access e-government services with a biometric scan.
Singapore has inked a deal with British vendor iProov to provide face verification technology used in the Asian country's national digital identity system. Already launched as a pilot earlier this year, the feature allows SingPass users to access e-government services via a biometric, bypassing the need for passwords.
The agreement also sees Singapore-based digital government services specialist, Toppan, involved in the deployment of the facial verification technology.

"Digital banks in #Singapore are offering more than just higher interest rates to entice sign-ups in a market that is dominated by traditional banks.
Among their offerings, the banks are ramping up promotions and services to help clients offset higher inflation.
Unlike traditional banks where customers can make transactions at physical branches, digital banks operate entirely online.
They do not have automated teller machines (ATMs) to dispense cash, nor physical bank outlets."

Two firms, one office
Haaretz has reviewed corporate documents from the Netherlands, Hungary, North Macedonia, Singapore and Israel that show that the two firms’ founders and directors were the same Israelis. Inpedio was registered in the Netherlands in 2016 by two founders: Rotem Farkash and Abraham Rubinstein. The very same Farkash and Rubinstein would establish Cytrox Holdings in Hungary - where IAI invested in - and a subsidiary, Cytrox Software, in North Macedonia, in 2017. The two registered Cytrox with their Inpedio email accounts.
Farkash is a hacker-turned-cyber-entrepreneur who later became a partner and senior official in Intellexa, an alliance of digital surveillance firms founded in Cyprus and Greece by former Israeli army intelligence commander Tal Dilian.
