🇵🇸 'Gaza Is Being Strangled': Head of UN Refugee Agency Issues Stirring Appeal for Cease-Fire

The head of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees issued an urgent appeal for a cease-fire in Gaza on Friday, warning that Israel's blockade and incessant bombing are plunging the territory's population into a horrific humanitarian emergency.

During a press conference, United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (#UNRWA) commissioner-general said the #Gaza Strip is "on the brink of a massive health hazard as the risks of diseases are looming."

The UNRWA chief said Friday that the slow and limited trickle of aid thus far "will not reverse the fact that Gaza is being strangled."

"These few trucks are nothing more than crumbs that will not make a difference for 2 million people," said Lazzarini. "We should avoid conveying the message that a few trucks a day means the siege is lifted for humanitarian aid. It is not. The current system in place is geared to fail."

🇵🇸 Israel continues to bombard Gaza, leaving thousands displaced

#Israel has intensified its bombardment in the north of the Gaza Strip, specifically near #Jabalia refugee camp where a complete neighbourhood has been attacked and dozens of residential buildings were completely wiped out.

With every hour more than 50 Palestinians get killed by the Israeli ongoing strikes.
The majority of the death toll, as the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza has announced, is young children and women.

UNRWA, the #UN agency for Palestinian Refugees, says it has lost touch with its staff in Gaza. On Saturday displaced Gazans stormed one of the Agency’s food supply centers in Deir el-Balah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Nearly one-third of Gaza's population is now displaced and resides in facilities affiliated with #UNRWA. But more than 50 of its employees have been killed. For them, like the rest of the #Gaza Strip’s population, there is no place to go.

Husam Okal is a long-time UNRWA staff member displaced to the UNRWA Khan Younis Training Centre (#KYTC) in the southern Gaza Strip with his family. As of 29 October, 672,000 internally displaced people are sheltering in 149 #UNRWA facilities throughout the #Gaza Strip, which is four times their intended capacity.  22,000 #IDPs are sheltering in KYTC.

🇵🇸 A Tribute to UNRWA staff members killed in Gaza

Since 7 October, 72 #UNRWA staff members have been killed in Gaza, the largest number of United Nations aid workers to be killed in such a short time span.

Today, we pay tribute to all of them, including Mai, a young Palestine Refugee who was killed yesterday in Jabaliya camp.

🇵🇸 The UN has said that 88 Unrwa staff members have been killed in Gaza since 7 October, the highest number of such deaths in a single conflict.

The UN made the announcement on Sunday in a rare joint statement issued together with several non-UN humanitarian organisations.

The statement further said: “We need an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. It’s been 30 days. Enough is enough. This must stop now.”

Israeli air raids have killed dozens people at the al-Fakhoora #School, run by the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (#UNRWA), in #Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.

At least 50 people have been killed in the bombing, the Palestinian ministry of health official said on Saturday

Reminder in 2009 : The al-Fakhura school incident was an Israeli military strike that took place during the Gaza War on 6 January 2009 near a United Nations-run school in the Jabalia Camp in the Gaza Strip. According to UN and several non-governmental organizations (NGOs), more than 40 people were killed, most of them civilians.

200 trucks of medical aid and four fuel trucks will enter the Gaza Strip daily, for use across the Strip.
