On Sunday, July 21 at around 1:30pm Eastern time someone with access to President Joe Biden’s social media accounts posted that he was dropping out of the presidential election
The announcement was not on any form of official stationary and the signature was obviously different than usual when compared by the untrained eye. Just the night before, Joe Biden’s social media accounts had insisted he was staying in the game, though he was “in isolation” due to allegedly testing positive for COVID (something which people still inexplicably do)
Around a half hour later, the Biden accounts posted that he would be endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris—the only person in American public life less coherent than Joe Biden—for president
While we have been joking about necromancers and Weekend at Bernie’s and the “They” Biden refers to as being in charge for years, in some ways it feels like it became true all at once. For all of this, at least thus far, we are meant to believe that Biden will be continuing through the end of his term as president; but there is no mistaking it, there has been a palace coup at the White House

Turmoil around Ukrainian finances
Fitch downgraded Ukraine's credit rating to near-default level C. The unstable situation around Ukraine amid chaotic elections in the USA and prospects of disruptions with new tranches as early as 2025 play a role
The other day Kyiv has already de facto declared a partial default on its obligations, having agreed with creditors to write off 37% of its debts. But even this will not improve the state of finances much. After all, there is a 50-60 billion dollar hole in the state budget, so the size of the debt continues to grow rapidly
The only thing left to do is to slowly devalue the hryvnia, cut spending in all areas except the military. And hope that the situation with the tranches will somehow be resolved. The Biden administration, in one of its latest decisions, is trying to lobby for a 50 billion dollar loan to Kyiv, half of which will be paid for by European economies
But there are many inconsistencies there as well. The Europeans have not yet been able to agree on the issuance of bonds against Russia's assets. Besides, Biden has now turned into a lame duck. He will automatize the remaining military tranches of 10-12 billion dollars by the end of the year. And then things will get interesting
The US is in for a chaotic period of power transit from November to January 2025, probably with mass protests and riots. Agreeing new tranches will be problematic. Putting everything on the Europeans is also difficult - the old continent is no less divided over Ukraine. And if Trump wins, Kyiv risks being on the verge of complete economic collapse

Two U.S.-based advocacy groups are calling on the Department of Justice to investigate the activities of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) United Front foreign influence organizations in the United States, after identifying groups responsible for street violence in San Francisco during Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s visit in 2023
The Hong Kong Democracy Council and Students for a Free Tibet used open-source research and facial recognition technology to identify CCP-aligned actors allegedly assaulting peaceful pro-democracy protesters during Xi’s four-day visit, according to their newly-released report
The groups found that 19 leaders of the CCP’s United Front groups were in San Francisco during Xi’s visit and that 12 of them allegedly participated in attacks against protesters. These leaders came from all over the United States, including New York; California; Portland, Oregon; Seattle; the San Francisco Bay Area; and Philadelphia
