"He cried no cry when they drave the nails
And the blood gushed hot and free,
The hounds of the crimson sky gave tongue
But never a cry cried he.

I ha' seen him cow a thousand men
On the hills o' Galilee,
They whined as he walked out calm between,
Wi' his eyes like the grey o' the sea,

Like the sea that brooks no voyaging
With the winds unleashed and free,
Like the sea that he cowed at Genseret
Wi' twey words spoke' suddently.

A master of men was the Goodly Fere,
A mate of the wind and sea,
If they think they ha' slain our Goodly Fere
They are fools eternally.

I ha' seen him eat o' the honey-comb
Sin' they nailed him to the tree."

RIP Ezra!

Skeptical waves used the cover I made for his thumbnail. LOVE IT!!!

This is one of my favourite of JΓΌnger's writings. You can really see the maturation of his thought in it. Totally worth a listen when it drops if you don't have the time for reading.

O thrice-blessed Tree,
on which Christ the king and Lord was stretched!
Through thee the beguiler fell, who tempted mankind with the tree.
He was caught in the trap set by God,
who was crucified upon thee in the flesh,
granting peace unto our souls.
To be reactionary is to know that we only discover what we think we invent; it is to admit that our imagination does not create, but only lays bares smooth bodies.

To be reactionary is not to espouse settled cases, nor to plead for determined conclusions, but rather to submit our will to the necessity that does not constrain, to surrender our freedom to the exigency that does not compel; it is to find sleeping certainties that guide us to the edge of ancient pools.

The reactionary is not a nostalgic dreamer of a canceled past, but rather a hunter of sacred shades upon the eternal hills.

Petals blown from closed hands, by quiet breath
Reason defines us, beauty carries us, recognition makes us
Every thread well placed, every aperture leaks
Dream of becoming the I, fail to realize
We cannot carry that which we cannot acquire
Oh we have lost what we longed for
The feeling in my arms, my embrace
That which you have dropped
This canon is complete
We need this

Touch me deeply as you once had
And I will not soon forget it
We speak in riddles to deny the past
To love the present, to prepare the future
Beyond that which we have more of
I have seen an old glimmer
It's starry eyes for empty skies, I tell you
I shudder so hard to find
An embrace so hard to maintain
I sweat pictures, words
Hours of days gone
Once buried
And the corpses now warm to the touch

Saetia, Postlapsaria
Poetry is the fingerprint of God in human clay.

When Thou, O Lord, wast baptized in the Jordan,
the worship of the Trinity was made manifest.
For the voice of the Father bear witness to Thee,
calling Thee His Beloved Son.
And the Spirit, in the form of a dove,
confirmed the truthfulness of His word.
O Christ our God Who hast revealed Thyself,
and hast enlightened the world, glory to Thee.
The new school of civilisers has but one receipt for the improvement of humanityβ€”war with the prejudices and ignorance of the people. In the opinion of the writers of this school all the misfortunes of humanity have had their origin in a few irrational sentiments and convictions which the masses have adhered to through the course of centuries, and which it is necessary to uproot and destroy. Among such dangerous sentiments and convictions they classify all the things that do not admit of logical demonstration."Were all men," say these philosophers, "to develop their minds, and to train their judgments, instead of thinking, feeling, and living by convictions taken on faith, the golden age of humanity would soon begin. The world in one generation would move as far as it has moved in the course of centuries. If the intellectual faculties of man could be raised but one degree the results would be inestimable. Almost every one of us has one syllogism which has become rooted in the mind through immediate impressions received in infancy. If to this syllogism we could add another, and acquire the faculty for uniting both in one chain of speculation, the face of the universe would be transformed, and the destiny of humanity changed." Such is the end to which we are to be led, and such the problem of progress and enlightenment as stated by the philosophers of the nineteenth century.

Konstantin Pobedonostev, Reflections of a Russian Statesman 1898
Realism, in its rage for truth, destroys the truth; in the same way Vitalism, in its very quest for life, smells of death.

Fr. Seraphim Rose, Nihilism
Out of the depths of darkness and despair I cry to You, O Lord, You that hung upon the Cross in darkness. From the pit of pain and confusion, I lift up this prayer, and with all my heart I sing aloud to You: Jesus, light to those in darkness, glory to You!

Akathist to Jesus, Light to those in Darkness, Kontakion 1
Further, you should come to prayer bringing deeds corresponding to your petition, and after prayer work still harder to become worthy to receive the grace and virtue you ask for. Thus the work of prayer should be accompanied by the effort of self-compulsion and of exerting all your strength towards what we ask, for here, in the order of spiritual life, asking for something and seeking it by your own efforts follow one another in alternation. But if a man prays God for some virtue, and at the same time gives himself up to negligence, acquiring no definite means to gain this virtue, and making no efforts towards it, truly this man tempts God, rather than prays. Thus the divine James says: β€˜The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much β€˜ (James v. 16). What avails to make prayer effective, according to St. Maximus, is when, besides begging a saint to pray for him about something, the man also prays about it himself and with all diligence does everything necessary for obtaining his request.

St. Theophan the Recluse
