My name is Prof. Ann Saterbak (Duke University, USA), and I am conducting a research study on teaching and learning in BME at NUS. This study explores how engineering students learn within different cultural and educational contexts, focusing on how classroom experiences and teaching methods support student success. There are a number of components to this project โ€“ and one of them is talking with BME students to get their first-hand impressions.

In particular, I am looking for ~25 BME students who would be willing to spend ~1 hr with me talking about your experiences as a student learning in BME courses at NUS. We will organize as โ€œfocus groupsโ€, meaning that students will be together in groups of 4 to 5 and talk with one other about the questions that I will ask. A few notes:

To consent to participate, you need to be 21 years or older. Thus, if you are not 21, please donโ€™t sign up.The interview will not have any NUS faculty members present, and Prof Ann will be leading the focus group.
The interview will be audio recorded (not video) and then transcribed, during which names (as well as identifying information like gender, year of study, etc) will be removed to maintain anonymity. The original audio recording will be deleted within 2-3 wks. I have tried to structure this conversation so that there are few concerns about discussing your genuine experiences, although I recognize that students may have questions. The conditions and protections of the interview will be outlined at the start of the meeting, and I can also answer questions via email.
Snacks will be provided.

It is really important to hear student voices, and I hope that you consider participating! Please sign up for a slot on the attached SignUpGenius Link. There will be sessions in the afternoons of Jan 28, Feb 3, and Feb 4. Please note:

Four of the sessions (two each on Jan 28 and Feb 4) are OPEN โ€“ meaning that any BME student can sign up.
The session on Feb 3 is focused particularly on students who are BN3101A and BN3101B THIS SEMESTER. So, please only sign up here if you are in one of these two courses. If you are taking BN3101A or B โ€“ but the Tuesday time doesnโ€™t work โ€“ you are welcomed to sign up for the other sessions on Wednesday.
Please sign up for only ONE interview slot.
Specific room numbers in E7 will be coming shortly to those who sign up.
