Thank you to members who echoed our concerns and shared your feedback following our recent post on rising fuel prices.

Many of you highlighted how the recent increases are affecting your weekly operating costs, and your input helped us reinforce our discussions with platform operators and partners.

Since then, several support measures have been introduced to help ease some of the immediate cost pressures on drivers

These measures provide some relief during this period of rising fuel costs. Drivers may also recall that during the previous fuel price surge in 2022, a driver fee was introduced on certain platforms to help offset increases in operating costs, including fuel. This was negotiated following discussions between NPHVA and the platform operators to help cushion the impact on drivers.

- ComfortDelGro has subsidised fuel for taxi and private-hire drivers renting from CDG Rent-A-Car at their in-house pump, with fuel priced at S$2.31 per litre.

- Grab has extended support to some driver-partners with a $40 Caltex fuel voucher.

- Lumens/Shell is providing selected hirers with $50 fuel credit

- TransCab is providing $3 daily rebates for their taxi and private-hire drivers.

More can be done. In view of the urgency of the situation and the continued rise in fuel prices, we have urged our platform partners to respond promptly.

They should consider more lasting forms of support for drivers. A fare adjustment would be an opportune longer-term measure. Meanwhile, any quicker form of immediate relief would also be appreciated.

We will continue working closely with them to ensure that members’ ground concerns remain part of ongoing discussions.

Following our recent discussions on rising fuel costs, CDG Zig will be introducing a temporary driver fee of $0.50 to $0.80 to help offset drivers’ operating expenses.

This move comes after we raised drivers’ concerns about rising fuel prices and the increasing strain on daily operating costs. While this is a step in the right direction, we recognise that many drivers feel the impact of rising fuel prices far more significantly.

NPHVA will continue engaging platform operators and partners to look at further measures, as drivers continue to face mounting cost pressures.
