The Causeway was the place to be for fishing aficionados well into the 1960s! 🎣 Its ease of access to deep-sea fishing without the need to hire a boat made it a fishing hot spot. The calm sea surrounding the landmark attracted marine life, and anglers could find fishes such as the tenggiri (Spanish mackerel) and parang (dorab wolf-herring) in the waters. 🐟🌊

In this photo, George Phillips, a Senior Aircraftman (SAC) with the Royal Air Force Seletar Association, is seen with local fishing enthusiasts at the Causeway in the 1960s.

For more stories surrounding the Causeway, visit the curated page by the National Archives of Singapore πŸ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4cYmCcM or pop by the National Archives of Singapore from 16 September–16 October 2024 to check out "The Causeway: A Century of Connections", a travelling exhibition by National Heritage Board.
