๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ต US, South Korean and Japanese security advisers meet to discuss North Korea

The national security advisers of the United States, South Korea and Japan are set to meet in Seoul on Friday and Saturday to discuss North Korea and other global issues as they step up trilateral cooperation.

Seoul's national security adviser, Cho Tae-yong, will hold bilateral talks with the White House's Jake Sullivan and Japan's Takeo Akiba on Friday, followed by a trilateral meeting on Saturday.

The meetings come after the three countries condemned North Korea's launch of its first reconnaissance satellite last month for violating multiple UN Security Council resolutions.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต US, South Korea, Japan to step up actions on North Korea cyber threats

The United States, South Korea and Japan agreed new initiatives on Saturday to respond to North Korea's threats in cyberspace, including cryptocurrency abuses and space launches, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said.

His Japanese counterpart Takeo Akiba said North Korea's "illicit cyber activities" had emerged as most recent challenges, calling them "a source of funds" for the isolated state's nuclear missile development.

The three countries' coordinated efforts will target potential threats of economic coercion, having completed work on a supply-chain early warning system, agreed to at Camp David, in critical minerals and rechargeable batteries.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ US forces in South Korea on regional agile combat mission with joint drill in Singapore

According to the US Forces Korea (USFK), six F-16 fighter jets along with 90 aircraft maintainers from the American base in Osan, south of Seoul, were sent to Singapore to take part in a three-week annual joint military exercise.

It said the Commando Sling 23 drills, held from November 6-24, enabled the US and Singaporean air forces to โ€œbuild aerial communication, evaluate tactics, increase interoperability, and improve alliance capabilityโ€.

It is rare for the USFK to operate outside the Korean peninsula. Some say that it sent the message that US forces in Korea can be deployed not only to Southeast Asia but also perhaps across the Taiwan Strait.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ผ US and Taiwan to keep pressing for Taipeiโ€™s inclusion in World Health Assembly

US and Taiwanese officials have redoubled efforts to secure Taipeiโ€™s participation in the World Health Assembly and other multilateral bodies, following an unsuccessful bid to join the UN forum earlier this year.

Without revealing any details, the US State Department said that the meeting โ€“ organized by the de facto US embassy on Taiwan, and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Washington โ€“ included representatives from the State Department and Taiwanโ€™s foreign ministry.

โ€œThis discussion focused on near-term opportunities to support Taiwanโ€™s expanded participation in the World Health Assembly and other global public health bodies, the International Civil Aviation Organization, as well as Taiwanโ€™s meaningful participation in non-UN international, regional and multilateral organizations,โ€ it said.

North Korea may test-launch an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) this month, a senior South Korean official said on Friday before discussions with US officials on responses to Pyongyang's nuclear weapons threats.

Kim Tae-hyo, South Korea's deputy national security adviser, declined to elaborate on the basis of his comments but said North Korea's ballistic missiles are the focus of Washington's "extended deterrence" strategy.

Kim is in Washington for the second round of the Nuclear Consultative Group talks on Friday, high-level discussions between the leaders of South Korea and the United States aimed at coordinating the extended deterrence strategy.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ US ambassador to China foresee warmer future between recent rivals

US ambassador to China Nicholas Burns touted a โ€œrevival of a close coordinated relationshipโ€ between the US and China, while also saying the relationship remains โ€œintensely competitiveโ€.

Speaking at the 50th anniversary gala of the US-China Business Council in Washington, Burns said: โ€œI can report to you this evening that both of our governments have found a way to bring a measure of badly needed stability to the US-China relationshipโ€.

The next year would usher in โ€œa normal diplomatic relationshipโ€, he continued while crediting the โ€œconsequentialโ€ meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in California last month.

The US will continue to manage a challenging economic relationship with China next year through "durable" communication and prevent tensions from escalating, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says.

Yellen plans to visit China next year to further strengthen communication, marking her second trip since July.

Yellen plans to press China for clarity on economic policies, such as what Beijing plans to do about local government debt and real estate market woes. Another priority is bolstering collaboration between financial regulators to allow for coordinated responses to economic shocks.

The United States and South Korea plan to draw up joint guidelines on nuclear defense strategy by the middle of next year and establish an integrated system to deter North Korea's nuclear weapons.

The US and South Korea are also expected to include nuclear operation exercises in next year's joint military drills.

The US State Department has approved a $300 million sale of equipment to help maintain Taiwan's tactical information systems, the Pentagon said.

The Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the sale was for follow-on life cycle support to maintain Taiwan's Command, Control, Communications and Computers, or C4, capabilities.

Taiwan's presidential office said the deal, the 12th arms sale by President Joe Biden's administration to Taipei, demonstrates the importance the US government attaches great importance to the island's defensive needs.
