Small Group teaching Methods

1. Group discussion

it is a form of communication and interaction within a group around a topic, skill, issue or problem presented to the group.

It could be planned, partly planned and unplanned.

Critical thinking, free flow of ideas and opinions are its part.

It enhances one’s verbal and non-verbal skills.

Domination by few individual on the basis of better communication is a possibility.

Biasness in the evaluation of trainees by instructor.

2. Seminar

In this one or more trainee prepare a paper on a given topic, issue or a problem which is then presented before a group. Thereafter discussion and analysis follows.

The main stage in seminar are preparation of paper, presentation of paper, and discussion on it.

In this presentation skills of trainee get enhanced and group leadership develops.

But it is time consuming and can stress to participants.

3. Panel Discussion

It consists of small group of six to eight persons.

The discussion here is guided and informal.

The leader must select those panel members only who can think and speak freely.

It is more interesting to audience than the single speaker.

But bringing experts to single platform can be difficult.

Audience participation here is nil.

4. Brainstorming

On a given topic large number of ideas are produced quickly by a group.

In this any one can input ideas at anytime except that criticism of ideas are not allowed.

Quantity of ideas is more important than quality.

Brainstorming goes on for several rounds till all the ideas are exhausted.

Best ideas are selected after evaluation.

It encourages trainers to be creative and produce, think and explore ideas.

But there is a possibility of some trainees being reluctant to participate.

5. Project Method

This is individualised or a small group instruction.

In this students explore and experience their environment.

Emphasis is on experimental learning rather than rote learning and memorisation.

In the student will develop critical thinking and working in teams.

But additional resources and continuous monitoring may be required.

6. Role playing

It is used to help solve classroom interpersonal problems and to teach human-relation skills in the classroom.

In this dramatisation of literary work, historical work and current events take place to facilitate subject matter learning.

It is interactive and interesting and entails participation of every member of the group.

But it requires a considerable amount of resources and real life situation are usually more complex.

7. Simulation

In this training is provided under created conditions which are similar to actual conditions.

For example- training of astronauts for Gangayan mission.

They are economical and safety is specially taken care of.

But high initial investment in machinery and equipment is required.

8. Demonstration Method

In this things are learned by doing and learning from concrete to abstract.

It is defined as a combination of verbal explanation coupled with a live display of using apparatus for presenting important facts, ideas, or processes.

It entails audio-visual explanation.

It is effective in explaining materials, objects, ideas and abstract topics.

But only few get opportunities to participate in the experimental process.

Types of Agriculture in India

There are different types of farming activities performed in India which are as follows:

🌾Subsistence Farming

Subsistence farming is a type of farming in which nearly all the crops or livestock raised are used to maintain the farmer and farmer’s family leaving little.

Subsistence farms usually consist of no more than a few acres, and farm technology tends to be primitive and of low yield.

🌾Mixed farming

Mixed farming is an agricultural system in which a farmer conducts different agricultural practice together, such as cash crops and livestock

The aim is to increase income through different sources and to complement land and labour demands across the year.

🌾Shifting cultivation

Shifting cultivation means migratory shifting agriculture.

Under this system, a plot of land is cultivated for a few years and then, when the crop yield declines because of soil exhaustion and the effects of pests and weeds, is deserted for another area.

Here the ground is again cleared by slash-and-burn methods, and the procedure is repeated.

What is CEC UGC Initiative? [https://t.me/ntanetpaper_I]

The Consortium for Educational Communication, popularly known as CEC, is one of the Inter University Centres set up by the University Grants Commission of India. It has been established with the goal of addressing the needs of Higher Education through the powerful medium of Television along with appropriate use of emerging Information Communication Technology (ICT).
Realizing the potential and power of television to act as a means of educational knowledge dissemination, UGC started the Countrywide Classroom Programmes in the year 1984. For production of such programmes, Media Centres were set up at 6 Universities. Subsequently CEC emerged in 1993 as a nodal agency to coordinate, guide & facilitate such Educational production at the National level. Today 21 Media Centres work towards achieving this goal under the umbrella of CEC.

How do I crack CSIR NET life sciences? [ https://t.me/csir_life_sciences ]

The other answers here are really good and I may not repeat their points so I strongly recommend reading them as well.

From my experience, I would suggest that students preparing for CSIR UGC NET JRF EXAMINATION should -

1) Focus on their concepts and fundamentals primarily and understand the topics well than simply mugging up everything. Not everyone can learn everything so one has to select the topics one is good at and perfect them first accordingly and so on.

2) Practice lots of questions (MCQs) topic wise pertaining to CSIR, GATE, IISC, JNU etc as they help in strengthening the understanding of concepts and helps save time in understanding the question on exam day. In this way, one is able to understand beforehand the tricks and twists in the questions which may otherwise lead to silly mistakes.

3) One should be careful about their strategy during exam. Since it involves 25% negative marking for each wrong answer, one has to be extremely cautious in selecting questions and answering them. Do not answer every question rather only the ones that one is confirm and confident of being correct to prevent negative marking. Still, one can take a chance of attempting a wrong answer if uncertain in Section B where it carries 2 marks for each correct answer compared to Section C which carriers 4 marks for each correct answer. So if an answer goes wrong in Section C, 1 mark gets deducted and it will hurt the overall score badly compared to Sections A and B where only 0.5 mark is lost.

4) Make the most of the 3 hours of examination and utilise this time wisely. One should give their best efforts as much as possible. Begin from Section B then move onto Section C and try to improve the score by attempting some questions in Section A as it really gives a bonus. One should not give up during the exam and try to attempt as many questions possible correctly. (One cannot gauge the threshold score beforehand so one should aim to maximise their score as much as possible. Many students fail to qualify because of this mistake.) Remember it is a competitive examination. One should attempt all the easy questions first that one is confirm and confident of then spend time on the less easy ones. It is not necessary to attempt all 35/50 questions in Section B and all 25/75 questions in Section C if one is uncertain of all answers to be correct. Instead even 17-20 questions in Section C will suffice if they are done correctly.

5) Remove any kind of fear and negativity pertaining to the exam. Be confident to clear the exam. It is actually one of the easiest examinations because of the vast range of questions one has the opportunity to choose from. This really makes the exam very scoring and simple unlike any other exam.

6) Lastly but importantly, one must never underestimate the power of prayers, meditation and physical activity with a balanced diet during the course of preparation. It helps improve memory, concentration, stamina and understanding.

Good luck and Best Wishes!!!
