THE FISHERMAN AND HIS SON

A Short Moral Story.

A young boy asked his fisherman father,
"Papa, is it okay to tell people about my goals and dreams in life?"

The fisherman was silent for a moment, then asked,
"Why do you want to know that?"

The young boy answered,
"Well, papa, I have many big dreams, really big! I want to be of impact in all areas of life, to my generation and all aspects of life. However, I don't know if I should or shouldn't tell people about these dreams I have."

The fisherman smiled, then said,
"You know what... let's go catch some fish in the river. And then, we will continue this conversation, okay?"

At that moment, the fisherman and his son took their fishing equipment and went fishing. At the river, they put a piece of bait on the hook and casted the fishing rod into the river to catch a fish.

A few hours later, they had already caught a lot of fish and their basket was almost filled. The fisherman then stopped, pointed at the basket, and said to his son,

"Take a look at all these fish in the basket. They've been caught by the hook, and their fate is now different from that of those in the river. These fish have lost everything in their lives; their families, friends and home. Sadly, they will have to suffer and be killed in a gruesome way. Some will be fried, some baked, some berbecued, some grilled, some steamed, etc. Do you know why they have to go through much misfortune?"

The boy thought for a minute, then shook his head and said,
"I don't know, papa. Tell me."

The fisherman took a deep breath, and then whistled,
"Well, it is because they couldn't close their mouths. It is stated that a fish with a closed mouth never gets caught by the hook. It never falls a victim."

Upon saying that, the fisherman patted his son's shoulder, smiled and then continued,

"Son, this is what happens in real life. Many people have failed and lost everything they ever acquired in life because they opened their mouths too wide and told other people about their dreams and plans. A good reason to guard your senses and keep your mouth shut about upcoming projects is that most people do not want to see you succeed. This is a piece of advice to save your plans from being sabotaged by people who envy you. You should never announce your dreams until they are close to completion. Many people will do everything in their power to send a dagger through your chest just to ensure you don't succeed. A closed mouth never gets into trouble. Keep your big move a secret. Move in silence. Take action, and shock people with your results."

Dear All,
Greetings from MoE,

We are excited to inform you about the government's new initiative, "5 Million Ethiopian Coders," launched with the support of  partners. This initiative aims to provide free access to ICT-related courses through the Udacity platform, known for its high-quality, in-depth courses in programming, data science, artificial intelligence, and more.

Students and teachers can take advantage of this unique opportunity to enroll in these courses at no cost, which would otherwise be significantly expensive in USD. By participating in this program, our education community can enhance their skills and become highly competitive in the global market. The ultimate goal is not just to complete the courses but to achieve certification from Udacity, which is recognized by international organizations and can greatly enhance career prospects.

To facilitate access, we have prepared step-by-step guidelines and a video tutorial on how to register on the system and enroll in the courses. Please share this valuable information widely within your community through available media channels (email, social media, website, etc.) so that students and teachers can benefit from it, especially during the summer break.

This is a tremendous opportunity for personal and professional growth, and we encourage everyone to take full advantage of it.

This is the video link we prepared, and we have also attached the PDF guidelines:

Bottle Flowers Crafts Ideas for students
Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khawārizmī was born around 780 CE and he is a man known as one the most important and influential thinkers of all time!
Without algebra and algorithm, we could not measure anything, make anything or build anything. There would be no money, houses or roads. No hospitals or food production, no internet, no defence, etc.

But do you know who is known as "the as the father of algebra and algorithm"? It is none other than Ibn Mūsā al-Khawārizmī. One of the greats!

Is math the language of science? If that is the case, then we should be thankful to him for translating it for us. Al-Khawārizmī became the director of the House of Wisdom in Baghdad, in modern-day Iraq, which was the capital of the Islamic empire at that time. There, he was part of a community of scholars from across the world who translated and studied ancient manuscripts. He blended and improved mathematical concepts from ancient Babylonian, Greek, and Hindu scholars, revolutionizing how we do math.

In the western world, he is also known as "Algoritmi" and the word “algorithm” is derived from the Latinization of his name, and the word “algebra” is derived from the Latinization of “al-Jabr“, which is a part of the title of his most famous book, in which he introduced the fundamental algebraic methods and techniques for solving equations.
Did you know that a Muslim scientist, Abbas Ibn Firnas, built the world's first flying machine nearly 1000 years ago?

In 875 CE, he crafted a flying apparatus from silk, wood, and eagle feathers, mimicking bird flight.

Though his attempt to land failed and left him injured, his invention remained in the history of aviation, making him one of the earliest pioneers of flight.

His experiments were way ahead of their time, even inspiring future aviation studies centuries later.
Born around a thousand years ago in present-day Iraq, Al-Hasan Ibn al-Haytham was a pioneering scientific thinker who made important contributions to the understanding of Vision, Optics, and Light.

Within the confines of his groundbreaking experiments, al-Haytham ingeniously crafted the camera obscura, a device that projected external scenes onto an interior surface. This device synonym to his profound understanding of optics, foreshadowed the modern digital camera.

Through his Book of Optics (Kitab al-Manazir), his ideas influenced European scholars including those of the European Renaissance. Today, many consider him a pivotal figure in the history of optics and the “Father of modern Optics”.
