I just spoke to an old woman who lives in my street who I often see walking her dog. I remarked that it was getting colder and asked her if she'd been putting her heating on. She replied that she's been putting the heating on for 15 minutes at a time just to warm up the radiators, which she sits by. Once she's cold again she'll treat herself to another 15 minutes.

She said she isn't that worried about the cold itself, she's used to that. What she fears is the damp, the endless cold dampness that pervades Autumn and Winter in Northern England. Her little 15 minutes of heat are really just a way to hold at bay the possibility that she'll become severely ill with some sort of chest infection.

This is the lot of old people in England in the winter of 2022, desperately clinging to a little bit of warmth by the radiator at intervals hoping they don't become terminally ill and suffer a slow, coughing death.

And the justification for this is not much more than that the corrupt politicians have a vested interest in a corrupt gangster state on the other side of Europe.

It really is remarkable that there's a World Cup going on and nobody cares in the slightest. It's interesting the way Baddiel slips in Elon Musk here. It's sort of hinted at and implied that Musk ''isn't a friend of the Jews''. As far as I'm aware they haven't just came out and called him an anti-semite yet but until they can actually get a concrete gotcha it'll be steadily dripped into articles and tweets to suggest that he is anyway.
