A brilliant article by Morgoth, where he beats me to the premise of 'the god in one's pocket'.

It's been at the back of my mind for some time to write a post about how we treat the smartphone computer in our pocket as we would a god or idol. We focus all of our attention on it, we take it as an authority in most matters, and we would be quite lost without it. I say 'we', but not all of us have replaced true divinity with the black screen.

It is also highly relevant to Morgoth's article that—as reported in previous posts (1,2)—some 'influencers' are beginning to proclaim AI to be some kind of spiritual guru. As Morgoth writes:

'Given that AI systems have already digested every religious text and theological musing that Man has ever written and recorded, there’s no reason to suppose that, if requested, the AI could not speak to the individual with the authority, mannerism, and tone of God himself.'

There should be questions here, based on these statements, on whether this organisation operates outside of the law (or has some protection from those who decide which cases are proceeded with). Certainly, the fake passport issue is a noteworthy aspect of this. One commenter, Tomlinson, declared on X that he had actually reported this issue to the police. Then nothing further was said about how this report was handled, which is in itself noteworthy.
