The project is part of a movement arguing that traditional laws and regulations impede innovation.

But critics worry that the project could become a 'state within a state', though the project leader disputes this claim https://ft.trib.al/iqVWPST
Mo Canary Wharf 🇬🇧
I’m not just another name on the ballot — I live here, I walk these streets, and I deal with the same issues you deal with every single day.
Canary Wharf is not just a place to me, it’s home.
Your priorities are my priorities. Whether it’s safety, cleanliness, housing, or making sure our area actually gets the attention it deserves — I’m here to deliver real results, not just promises. 🤝
This campaign is simple: Real representation. Real accountability. Real action.
As a true independent voice, I will hold Tower Hamlets Council to account — without party politics, without agendas, just doing what’s right for the community. 🏛️

Official Mayoral Invitation 🇬🇧🤝🇺🇸 – Visit to Canary Wharf, London

Dear Mayor Zohran Mamdani,

I hope this message finds you well.

It is with great respect and formality that I write to you in your capacity as Mayor of New York City to extend an official invitation to visit Canary Wharf in London — widely recognised as the “Manhattan of London.”

🇬🇧 United Kingdom 🤝 United States 🇺🇸

This invitation reflects the long-standing relationship between two of the world’s most influential global cities. London and New York continue to shape international finance, innovation, culture, and governance. Canary Wharf stands at the centre of this in London — not only as a financial district, but as a rapidly evolving urban environment redefining the future of city living.

As Mayor, your leadership in addressing critical urban challenges — including housing, transport, economic opportunity, and inclusive growth — represents the type of forward-thinking governance that resonates strongly with ongoing discussions in London and across the United Kingdom.

Canary Wharf, much like Manhattan, is undergoing a significant transformation. It is moving beyond its traditional role as a financial hub into a fully integrated district where business, residential life, technology, and community coexist. This transition brings forward complex questions around affordability, infrastructure, sustainability, and accessibility — challenges that both London and New York are uniquely positioned to address together.

In this context, your visit would serve as an important platform for dialogue and cooperation between our two cities.

The purpose of this invitation is to facilitate:

• High-level exchange of ideas on urban development and city governance
• Strategic dialogue on the future of global financial districts
• Collaboration on addressing shared challenges such as housing and transport
• Engagement with local stakeholders, including business leaders and community representatives
• Strengthening international ties between London and New York

Subject to your availability, we would be honoured to organise a structured and comprehensive visit programme, which may include:

• An official visit and guided tour of Canary Wharf and surrounding areas
• Private meetings and roundtable discussions with key stakeholders
• A formal discussion on the future of global cities and economic cooperation
• Media engagement and public dialogue opportunities, where appropriate

This invitation is extended in the spirit of partnership, recognising that global cities must work together to address the challenges of the future while continuing to lead in innovation, economic growth, and social development.

It would be a privilege to welcome you to Canary Wharf and to host you in London at a time that is convenient for your schedule.

Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Mohamed Aboshanab

PRESS RELEASE
Mohamed Aboshanab (Mo) – Canary Wharf Councillor Candidate
Tower Hamlets Independents
London, Canary Wharf – April 2026
Mohamed Aboshanab (Mo) has officially joined Tower Hamlets Independents as part of his campaign to represent Canary Wharf, marking an important step toward delivering real change for the local community.
A UK-registered lawyer and founder of Global Expat, Mo brings international experience and a strong focus on accountability, transparency, and results-driven leadership.
“Joining Tower Hamlets Independents is an important move,” Mo said. “It allows us to build a stronger, united voice for residents while staying truly independent in how we think and act.”
Canary Wharf continues to grow as one of London’s most important economic centres, yet many residents feel disconnected from decisions affecting their daily lives. Mo’s campaign focuses on closing that gap and ensuring the community has a real voice.
By working with Tower Hamlets Independents, Mo aims to strengthen oversight, challenge decisions where needed, and bring balance back into the council.
Key priorities include:
– Transparency in planning and development
– Supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs
– Stronger communication between residents and the council
– Ensuring growth benefits the local community
“This is about creating real impact,” Mo added. “Not just standing alone, but working with the right people to deliver results.”
Mo is calling on residents across Canary Wharf and Tower Hamlets to get involved and be part of shaping the future of their area.

End of Release
Hi Lynne,

I completely understand where you’re coming from — and honestly, you’re not alone. I speak to people across Canary Wharf every day and a lot of them are saying the same thing… they just don’t feel represented by any of the current options.

I’m Mo Aboshanab, standing in Canary Wharf with Tower Hamlets Independents. I didn’t plan to run originally, but after seeing how disconnected people feel from decisions being made in their own area, I felt it was time to step forward and try to change that.

For me, this isn’t about politics as usual — it’s about being present, listening, and actually acting on what residents are saying. Canary Wharf is changing fast, but many residents feel like they’ve been left behind in those decisions.

I’m not here to convince you in a comment section — I’d rather meet you properly, hear your concerns, and have a real conversation about what you’d like to see done differently.

If you’re open to it, let’s meet somewhere around Canary Wharf — coffee, quick walk, whatever works for you.

You can reach me directly on WhatsApp or call me: +44 7401 729623

Also feel free to Google my name, Mohamed Aboshanab — you’ll see my background and what I’ve been working on over the years.

Or just send me a location and time that suits you and I’ll come to you.

Really appreciate your honesty — that’s exactly what this ward needs more of.
Let’s talk honestly about council housing and property management in Canary Wharf — because behind all the glass towers and billion-pound developments, there’s a reality that many people are quietly dealing with every single day.

Canary Wharf is one of the most valuable and fast-growing areas in — but for many residents, especially those in council housing or on waiting lists, it doesn’t always feel like the system is working for them.

You’ve got families waiting years for a home.
You’ve got tenants dealing with repairs that take far too long.
You’ve got buildings that look modern from the outside — but inside, people are still chasing basic maintenance.

And at the same time, new developments keep going up… with very limited truly affordable housing included.

That’s the disconnect.

Affordable housing shouldn’t just be a line in a planning document — it should be real, accessible, and fairly allocated to the people who actually live and work here.

From what I see on the ground in Canary Wharf:

• There’s a lack of transparency in how council properties are managed
• Communication between residents and the council is often slow or unclear
• Small issues turn into big problems because no one takes ownership early
• “Affordable housing” is sometimes priced in a way that doesn’t reflect real local incomes

And that’s not fair.

Council housing is not a privilege — it’s a responsibility. A responsibility for the council to manage properly, maintain consistently, and allocate fairly.

We need to start thinking differently.

Imagine a system where:

• Every tenant knows exactly who to contact — and actually gets a response
• Repairs are tracked and completed within clear timeframes
• Local residents are prioritised, not pushed aside
• Developers are held accountable for delivering real affordable housing — not just ticking a box
• The council actively engages with the community instead of reacting late

This isn’t unrealistic. It’s basic management done properly.

Because at the end of the day, housing is not just about buildings — it’s about people, families, stability, and dignity.

Canary Wharf has the potential to be one of the best places to live in London — not just for investors or high earners, but for everyone.

But that only happens when the system works for the community, not around it.

If we want real change in , we need to start having real conversations — and more importantly, take real action.

Because everyone deserves a place they can truly call home. 🏡

25 days to go.

That’s not a lot of time… but it’s more than enough to make a real decision about the future of Canary Wharf and Tower Hamlets.

This isn’t just about voting for a name on a paper.
This is about choosing who actually shows up, listens, and delivers.

I’ve been out there every day speaking to people, business owners, families, workers — not pushing a script, just having real conversations. And one thing is clear… people want balance, not noise.

They want someone who can stand in the middle, understand both sides, and actually get things done.

If you’re tired of the same promises… this is your moment to change that.

Your vote is your power. Use it.

Let’s build something that works for everyone — not just one side.

Message me, speak to me, stop me on the street… I’m here.

7th of May — let’s get it right.

Everything will change on 7th May 2028
Just 2 Years from now
Are you Ready 🤞🤞🤞
To everyone across Canary Wharf and beyond,

Thank you.

Thank you to every single person who supported me, believed in me, voted for me, spoke to me on the streets, attended meetings, shared ideas — or simply took the time to have a conversation.
We didn't win this time. But this is not the end. In many ways, it is just the beginning.

This campaign was never only about elections. It was about people. Real people. Real conversations. Real change.

Over these past weeks, I met residents, workers, students, business owners, parents, young people, and members of our older generation. I listened to your concerns, your frustrations, your hopes, and your ideas for the future of this community.

And one thing became absolutely clear: our communities want to be heard again.

I am proud of what we built together.

We showed that new voices, new energy, and new ideas still have a place in public life. We showed that politics can still feel human.

To everyone who voted for me in Canary Wharf — thank you for your trust. I will never take that lightly.

And I promise you this: this is not the last you will hear from me.
The work continues. The conversations continue. And the mission to make our communities stronger, safer, smarter, and more connected — that continues too.

My home is Canary Wharf. My city is London. But my mindset has always been global — from Miami to Dubai to Istanbul and beyond.

Because no matter where we come from, great communities are built the same way: through people who care enough to step forward.

I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

Stay great, my friends. Think global. 🌍
— Mo
