Our eggnet has concluded! πŸŽ‰

The response was nothing short of astonishing, with 1100 nodes participating at its peak. πŸ”₯

This gives way for the next stage in Marlin’s development trajectory, the Larvanet, which will begin within a month.

It has been our goal to distribute tokens amongst community members who actively participate in building and operating the Marlin network, be it via network rewards or the FlowMint stakedrop. On that front, 4.3% of the total supply of Marlin tokens will be awarded to the Eggnet participants. πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°

A big thank you to all those who participated! You guys are awesome. πŸ’―

Farming is dead πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ Or is it?

The Eth DeFi community had a fun summer with PoS token holders and validators of Polkadot, NEAR Protocol, Cosmos, IRISnet and Matic Network on the sidelines 😑 Fret not!

https://www.marlin.pro/blog/announcing-flowmint-a-cross-chain-stakedrop-for-platform-tokens/

20% of supply
Starts December 14, 9pm PT
What, why & how πŸ‘‡

- What did we learn from farming? Communities and traders like to engage with new distribution models, calculates APYs, and overall degen around. Many protocols have fallen to the sweet temptation of boosting rewards and getting the word viral out there... but at what cost?

- APYs which are not sustainable, dry out. Inflation is a directional tool: a strong way up correlates with a strong way down. But it doesn't mean protocols should stop dedicating supply to the community and just keep all the tokens to themselves. Not at all!

- It's one of the most important steps in the life of any protocol to decentralize its ownership, governance, and empower all communities to become part of a new movement. While there are ways to vest LP rewards, retention mechanisms, and so on - we should do better.

- So what's Marlin's take on it? Now let's step back on WHY decentralize ownership and involve communities in the first place... well, the latter is pretty obvious, right? As for the former, many miss the point. And that's where we feel like we got in the right spot.

- Marlin at its core is a Layer 0 protocol. What does that mean, you ask? We aim to improve and upgrade every protocol from the ground-up. Don't think about the Layer above, we scale blockchains, protocols, APIs, you name it - by reducing latency and speed.

- For instance, check out this piece on the Graph Protocol we published recently where we help improve response times from 10 seconds to a few milliseconds.

- Now, back to the question of a distributed supply. By empowering all communities to participate in FlowMint - we increase the chances of Marlin ecosystem growing. For example, you run a Polkadot node? Well, you are a holder and a potential provider at the same time.

- Who decides which protocol gets to be integrated first, where we should focus within p2p area, and other important issues? Marlin relayers are impartial, they provide services to any other protocol, improving them from underneath governed equally by every other protocol community

- So there is the idea of FlowMint: over 20% of supply dedicated to staking communities & validators over the course of 24 months. This gives enough time to validators to be onboarded, integrate new chains, and start growing their user bases at the same time.

After some sleepless nights with Fantom, happy to share that FTM holders can also participate in FlowMint. FTM validators should register ASAP. Delegators of such validators will be able to claim a share of 20% MPOND in the StakeDrop starting Dec 14!

FlowMint is live. Dive in! 🀿

Where: https://app.marlin.pro/flowmint

What: A 20% token distribution of #MPOND in a cross-chain stakedrop over 24 months πŸ‘€

Who: Cosmos, IRISnet, Matic Network, NEAR Protocol, Polkadot and Binance Smart Chain with many more to be added πŸ’―

When: Now!

Delegate your native tokens to whitelisted validators on FlowMint and earn #MPOND!
As many would have already noticed, our official Twitter account has not been available for the past 18 hours. We've reached out to Twitter soon after this happened and are looking to get this resolved at the earliest. Unfortunately, this is not a unique situation as xDai has experienced the same issue.

In the meantime, this is the best place to receive official communication from us.
πŸ”Š The first proposal in POND governance by P2P Validator is up for discussion!

πŸ”Ž It suggests changing the reward function for a chain in FlowMint from a constant fraction to weighted by TVL

🀝 The proposal, if passed, stands to benefit Polkadot delegators

πŸ“’ Support for non-foundation nodes in Matic has been added in FlowMint!

πŸ‘€ Updated validator list: https://app.marlin.pro/flowmint/validators
FlowMint crossed $90m in total stake bonded from delegators of validators running Marlin gateways on Polkadot, NEAR Protocol, Fantom, Cosmos, Binance Smart Chain, Matic and IRISnet.

20% of genesis MPond to be distributed over 24 months to protocol communities adopting Marlin. 🀝

βŒ›οΈ Larvanet's approaching
πŸ›‘ Nodes req tokens to stake
πŸ’° Validators need to cover costs
🐟 Marlin's a base layer 0 protocol
πŸ“ˆ Economic guarantees req are high
βš–οΈ Governance has to cater to incongruous communities

The POND / MPond design rationale πŸ‘‡

https://www.marlin.pro/blog/introducing-mpond-the-marlin-network-tokens/

We introduce a dual token model comprised of a semi-transferrable MPond and completely transferrable POND with a bridge governed by token holders themselves. Inspired from Project Serum's MSRM/SRM model, Nexus Mutual's bridge design, and Fred Ehrsam's governance minimization.

We think the design of MPond/POND is an interesting experiment in exploring security design and governance in PoS systems. While POND incentivizes validators and is a route to acquiring MPOND, MPOND's design ensures that economic security and governance aren't easily compromised.
