However, the good news will be overshadowed by politics: the day before the birth, the Ottoman Empire will declare war on Russia. Therefore, European newspapers were surprised by unexpected content of the expected Imperial Manifesto: the content of the document turned out to be peaceful - the Tsar had a granddaughter.

By the late autumn of 1853, when the St. Petersburg court returned to the capital, work on the renovated boudoir was completed. The author of the new concept for the premises was the architect Harald Bosse. His masterpiece is rightfully considered one of the standards of the “second Rococo” style, popular in the mid-19th century.

По сей день этот придворный великогерцогский проповедник считается одним из наиболее значимых гессенских евангелических теологов.
Занятия с Циммерманном начнутся для Марии в 1832 г. и продолжатся вплоть до ее переезда в Петербург. В 1840 г. теолог, ставший впоследствии главой гессенской евангелической церкви, посвятит воспитаннице стихи по случаю ее помолвки.

Empress Maria Alexandrovna will go down in history as one of the devoutly believing Russian Tsarinas. It would not be a mistake to note the merit in this of the Hessian Princess’s teacher of religion, Karl Zimmermann (1803-1877), who instilled in the girl a sincere love for Christianity.
To this day, this grand ducal court preacher is considered one of the most significant Hessian evangelical theologians.
Maria's studies with Zimmermann began in 1832 and continued until she moved to St. Petersburg. In 1840, the theologian, who later became the head of the Hessian Evangelical Church, dedicated poems to his pupil on the occasion of her engagement.

Удивительным образом начало и конец жизни Императрицы Марии Александровны в России будут связаны со Святыми Апостолами Петром и Павлом. Судите сами - в г. Калише (Польша), ставшем первым пунктом на территории Российской Империи по пути следования гессенской невесты российского Цесаревича в 1840 г. из Дармштадта в Петербург, будет воздвигнут Калишский Петропавловский собор. Храм освятят в день рождения уже Императрицы Марии Александровны в 1877 г. А через три года Императрица упокоится в Петропавловском соборе, но в Санкт-Петербурге.
Судьба Калишского пятиглавого собора-богатыря отражает дух тех времен - в 1920 г. здание демонтируют, а из кирпичей уже в 1929 г. сложат небольшую кладбищенскую церковь.

The temple will be consecrated on the birthday of Empress Maria Alexandrovna in 1877. Three years later, the Empress will rest in the Peter and Paul Cathedral, but in St. Petersburg.
The fate of the Kalisz five-domed cathedral-hero reflects the spirit of those times - in 1920 the building was dismantled, and already in 1929 a small cemetery church was built from bricks.

Журналисты живописуют трогательные сцены прощания Марии с любимой родиной, с игрушками, тó, как 72 знатные девицы дарят ей на прощание сотканный ими гобелен с видами красот гессенской земли. Но в день 16-летия, Мария в сопровождении Царицы, а также воспитательницы де Гранси (поедет в Петербург) и обергофмейстерины фон Ридезель (проводит воспитанницу до границы) отправится в Веймар, затем в Берлин, а потом через Варшаву в столицу Российской Империи.
