โ™ฆ๏ธ Suez Canal

#New

โ–ช๏ธIn Headlines : A large cargo ship named 'Ever Given' got stuck near the southern end of Suez Canal due to a mishap caused by bad weather.

โ–ช๏ธThe Suez Canal is an artificial sea-level waterway running north to south across the Isthmus of Suez in Egypt, to connect Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.

โ–ช๏ธThe canal separates the African continent from Asia.

โ–ช๏ธIt provides the shortest maritime route between Europe and the lands lying around the Indian and western Pacific oceans.

โ–ช๏ธIt is one of the worldโ€™s most heavily used shipping lanes, carrying over 12% of world trade by volume.

โ–ช๏ธIn 2020, an average of 51.5 ships per day, with a net tonnage of 1.17 billion tonnes passed through the canal.

โ–ช๏ธThe canal is a major source of income for Egyptโ€™s economy.

1. India - Bangladesh

โ–ช๏ธIndia and Bangladesh share 4096.7 km. of border, which is the longest land boundary that India shares with any of its neighbours.

โ–ช๏ธThis boundary has been determined under the Radcliffe Award which divided the erstwhile province of Bengal into two parts.

โ–ช๏ธAssam, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and West Bengal share the India-Bangladesh border.

โ–ช๏ธBangladesh is a low-lying country. A fifth of Bangladeshโ€™s territory is likely to go under water if sea levels rise by one meter. And, this is expected to happen by the end of this century.
