Farakka Barrage (Dam)

โ–ช๏ธIt is a barrage across the Ganga river

โ–ช๏ธIt is located at Farakka of Murshidabad district in West Bengal

โ–ช๏ธIt is roughly about 10.5 Km

โ–ช๏ธConstructed in 1961-1975

โ–ช๏ธMain objective of the barrage is to divert water from Ganges to the Bhagirathi Hooghly river system to preserve and maintain Kolkata port

โ–ช๏ธThe barrage divides Ganges water to Hooghly river and to Bangladesh

โ–ช๏ธIt serves water to Farakka super thermal power station and also for drinking purposes

โ–ช๏ธ It resulted in salinity ingress and flooding in Bangladesh

โ–ช๏ธIn India, it leads to flooding in Bihar, population reduction of Hilsa in West Bengal and more silting in Kolkata port

โ–ช๏ธChushul

It is a village in Leh, Ladakh, India.
It is located in the Durbuk tehsil, in the area known as โ€œChushul valleyโ€.
It is close to Rezang La and Panggong Lake at a height of 4,360 metres.

Chushul is one of the five officially agreed Border Personnel Meeting points between the Indian Army and the Peopleโ€™s Liberation Army of China for regular consultations and interactions between the two armies to improve relations.

This place is famous for the Indian Army who fought to the โ€˜last man, last roundโ€™ at Rezang La (Chushul) on November 18, 1962. Without this crucial victory, the territory might have been captured by China.

โ–ช๏ธMahananda River is a trans-boundary river that flows through the Indian states of West Bengal, Bihar and Bangladesh.

โ–ช๏ธ The Mahananda is another important tributary of the Ganga rising in the Darjeeling hills.

โ–ช๏ธ States- West Bengal, Bihar

โ–ช๏ธ Mahananda originates in Himalayas: Paglajhora Falls on Mahaldiram Hill near Chimli, east of Kurseong in Darjeeling district at an elevation of 2,100 metres (6,900 ft).

โ–ช๏ธIt joins the Ganga as its last left bank tributary in West Bengal.

โ–ช๏ธtributaries Balason, Mechi, Kankai and River Kalindri.

Hirakud Dam

โ–ช๏ธIt is the longest dam in the world with a length of 25.8 Km

โ–ช๏ธThe aim of the dam is to control flood in Mahanadi, irrigation water supply and hydropower generation

โ–ช๏ธWith successful irrigation provided by the dam, Sambalpur is called as Rice bowl of Odisha

Pangong Lake

โ–ช๏ธ Pangong Tso or Pangong Lake is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 14,270 ft.

โ–ช๏ธ It is 134 km long and 5 km wide at its broadest point and extends from India to the Tibetan Autonomous Region, China.

โ–ช๏ธ Approximately 60% of the length of the lake lies within the Tibetan Autonomous Region, china.

โ–ช๏ธ It is not a part of the Indus river basin area and geographically a separate landlocked river basin

โ–ช๏ธ The Line of Actual Control passes through the lake. A section of the lake approximately 20 km east from the Line of Actual Control is controlled by China but claimed by India.

Kolleru Lake

โ–ช๏ธ Kolleru Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in India located in state of Andhra Pradesh and forms the largest shallow freshwater lake in Asia.

โ–ช๏ธ Kolleru is located between Krishna and Godavari deltas and spans into two districts โ€“ Krishna and West Godavari. 

โ–ช๏ธ Many birds migrate here in winter, such as Siberian crane, ibis, and painted storks. 

โ–ช๏ธ The lake was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in November 1999 under India's WPA of 1972.

โ–ช๏ธAlso designated as a wetland of international importance in November 2002 under the international Ramsar Convention.

Rana Pratap Sagar Dam

โ–ช๏ธ The Ranapratap Sagar Dam is a gravity masonry dam of (177 ft) height built on the Chambal River at Rawatbhata in Rajasthan in India.

โ–ช๏ธ The direct benefit from the dam is hydropower generation of 172 MW.

โ–ช๏ธ The dam and power plant are named after the warrior Maharaja Rana Pratap of Rajasthan.

Dodital Lake

โ–ช๏ธ Dodital is a freshwater lake in uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, India, situated at a height of 9,921 ft.

โ–ช๏ธ Assi ganga river rises from dodital and joins bhagirathi. The confluence is at Gangotri

โ–ช๏ธ According to one of the popular legends Lord Ganesha chose this place as his abode.

โ–ช๏ธ There is a temple devoted to Lord Ganesha here. Another name for this lake is 'Dhundital' meaning Ganesh ka tal or lake of Ganesha.

Vembanad lake


โ–ช๏ธ Vembanad or Vembanad Kol is the longest lake in India, and the largest lake in the state of Kerala

โ–ช๏ธ It is the second largest Ramasar site in India only after Sunderbans in west bengal, Spanning several districts in the state of Kerala

โ–ช๏ธ It is known as Vembanadu Lake in Alappuzha, Punnamada Lake in Kuttanad and Kochi Lake in Kochi.

โ–ช๏ธ The famous Nehru Trophy Boat Race is conducted in a portion of the lake in Alappuzha.

โ–ช๏ธ The government of India has identified the Vembanad wetland under the National Wetlands Conservation Programme.

Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory. Under the Gibraltar constitution of 2006, Gibraltar is self-governing, with some responsibilities, such as defence and foreign relations, remaining with the British government.

History: In 1704, Anglo-Dutch forces captured Gibraltar from Spain during the War of the Spanish Succession.The territory was ceded to Great Britain in perpetuity under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713

Significance: It remains strategically important, with half the world's seaborne trade passing through the strait

Located: southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula

Gibraltar's territory covers 6.7 square kilometres & shares a 1.2-km land border with Spain.maritime border with Morocco

Gibraltar's terrain consists of the 426-metre-high Rock of Gibraltar made of Jurassic limestone & the narrow coastal lowland surrounding it.

Gibraltar is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea & has โ€œNo Contact With The Atlantic Oceanโ€

Length: 1856 km.

Kavir Desert

โ— In Persian, Dasht-e Kavฤซr, also spelled Dasht-i Kavฤซr, great salt desert of north-central Iran.

โ— Located in a basin southeast of the Elburz Mountains, it is approximately 240 miles (390 km) wide.

โ— The desert is distinguished by its salt crust, caused by the almost rainless climate and intense surface evaporation, lying over treacherous quicksand like salt marshes that are almost uninhabited.

โžจWestern disturbances play an important role in precipitating additional rain during winter season in Kashmir and adjoining region.

โžจThere is the presence of high pressure around and very low pressure in the center of any tropical cyclone. It is because of the tendency of the warm air to rise and cause a drop in pressure.
