๐Kalamkari Paintings
โ The name comes from kalam, i.e. a pen, which is used to paint these exquisite paintings.
โ The pen used is made of sharp pointed bamboo, used to regulate the flow of colours. The base is cotton fabric while the colours used are vegetable dyes.
โ The pen is soaked in a mixture of fermented jaggery and water; one by one these are applied and thereafter, the vegetable dyes are applied
โ The main centers for this art are Srikalahasti and Machilipatnam in the
State of Andhra Pradesh.
โ The images are drawn free hand and the inspiration comes from Hindu mythology.
โ Textiles with handwork are also produced here. Kalamkari painting had its existence even during Vijayanagara empire
โ It has received GI status.

๐Seismic Zones in India
โ There are four seismic zones (II, III, IV, and V) in India based on scientific inputs relating to seismicity, earthquakes occurred in the past and tectonic setup of the region.
โ Previously, earthquake zones were divided into five zones with respect to the severity of the earthquakes but the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) grouped the country into four seismic zones by unifying the first two zones.
โ Seismic Zone II:
Area with minor damage earthquakes corresponding to intensities V to VI of MM scale (MM-Modified Mercalli Intensity scale).
โ Seismic Zone III:
Moderate damage corresponding to intensity VII of MM scale.
โ Seismic Zone IV:
Major damage corresponding to intensity VII and higher of MM scale.
โ Seismic Zone V:
Earthquake zone V is the most vulnerable to earthquakes, where historically some of the countryโs most powerful shocks have occurred.

PROXIMA CENTAURI
โข Astronomers at the $100 million Breakthrough Listen project, started by the legendary physicist Stephen Hawking, have recently picked up an โintriguingโ radio wave emission from the direction of Proxima Centauri, the closest star to our Sun.
โข Proxima Centauri is 4.2 light-years away from the Sun โ considered a close distance in cosmic terms. Its mass is about an eighth of the Sunโs, and it is too dim to be seen with the naked eye from Earth.
โข Proxima b, one of the two planets that revolve around the star, is the subject of significant curiosity.
โข Sized 1.2 times larger than Earth, and orbiting its star every 11 days, Proxima b lies in Proxima Centauriโs โGoldilocks zoneโ i.e. the area around a star where it is not too hot and not too cold for liquid water to exist on the surface of surrounding planets (e.g. Earth is in the Sunโs Goldilocks zone).

โ The Anatomy of a cloud burst..
โ A cloudburst in Chamoli district has triggered an avalanche breaking off a portion of Nandadevi glacier near Joshimath and causing massive flooding in the Alkananda river system.
โ Several power projects such as Tapovan-Vishnugad hydel project, the Rishi Ganga Hydel Project and the Dhauliganga hydropower project have suffered extensive damage.
โ In a cloudburst prone region like Uttarakhand clearing of vegetation for construction of exotic resorts, roads using heavy earth moving machinery as well as building large hydropower projects is a glaring example of how ecological impact of human exacerbates the impacts of natural disasters.
