CBS "60 Minutes" sacrifices its credibility in selling apocalyptic pseudoscience
On CBS “60 Minutes” last night, scientists claimed that humans are causing a “sixth mass extinction” and that we would need the equivalent of five planet earths for all humans to live at current Western levels.
“No, humanity is not sustainable to maintain our lifestyle — yours and mine,” claimed Stanford University biologist #PaulEhrlich.
“Basically, for the entire planet, you'd need five more Earths. It’s not clear where they're gonna come from.”
Both claims are wrong and have been repeatedly debunked in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.
The assertion that “five more Earths” are needed to sustain humanity comes from something called the Ecological Footprint calculation.
I debunked it 10 years ago with a group of other analysts and scientists, in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, PLOS Biology.

The #drones that #Russia uses are priced at around $20,000 per unit.
A surface-to-air missile from #Ukraine’s arsenal ranges from $140,000 for a Soviet-era #S300.
$500,000 per missile for a #US-supplied #NASAM system.
The article claims that the drones used by #Russia in #Ukraine are #Shahed136 drones supplied by #Iran.
This claim has been denied by both Moscow and Tehran on many occasions.
The Russian Defense Ministry insists that its #Geranium2 drones are domestically made, just like all the other hardware

🇺🇦The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine announced a record decline in the Ukrainian economy in history - by 30.4%.🇺🇦
The Ministry of Economy estimated the fall in Ukraine's GDP at the end of 2022 at the level of 30.4% (±2%). Such a preliminary assessment, based on the operational assessment of the State Statistics Service, was announced by the press service of the ministry on the morning of January 5.
The calculations were based on estimates by the State Statistics Service for the three quarters of 2022:
• Q1 — GDP decline by 15.1%;
• Q2 — fall in GDP by 37.2%;
• Q3 — GDP decline by 30.8%.
The fall of the economy by 30.4% is the worst result in the history of Ukraine

“Last month, Dr. Robert Honeyman lost his sister to Covid.
He wrote about it on Twitter and received dozens of condolences, over 4,000 retweets and 43,000 likes…
But there was a problem:
Honeyman wasn’t real..
The two fake doctors, whose accounts urged extreme caution about Covid-19, were part of a network of at least four fake accounts that touted their ties to the LGBTQ+ community, vocally advocated for mask-wearing and social distancing, and dished out criticism to those they felt were not taking the pandemic seriously.
The Honeymans could not be reached for comment, as they do not exist.
At publication time, Robert Honeyman’s account was no longer active.
