RUSSIA TO DIVERT METALS AWAY FROM THE WEST

#Russia will redirect its metal exports from Western countries to alternative markets due to sanctions imposed by the #EU and #US, Trade Minister Denis Manturov said on Monday......

Russia is a major metals producer and exporter.

According to Institut Polytechnique de #Paris, last year Russian-sourced metals market share was:

•Palladium 37%
•Titanium 13%
•Nickel 11.2%
•Platinum 10.5%
•Aluminum 5.4%
•Copper 4%
•Cobalt 4.4%

Russia is the world’s top producer of palladium, a rare metal used in car manufacturing, accounting for 37% of production in 2021.

Russia is not only a major producer of primary aluminum but it is also embedded in the global supply chains needed to make the metal.

Moscow named #China, #Turkey, #SouthEastAsia, member states of the Russia-led #EurasianEconomicUnion and #CIS countries as priority areas for diversifying metal supplies.

According to Manturov, trade flows will also focus on the #LatinAmerican, #African and #MiddleEastern markets.

War and Peace*

Despite all the similarities and common human values, there is a Russian (conservative, traditional, collective, patriotic) and there is also a Western (libertarian, individualistic, cosmopolitan) paradigm (pattern, way of thinking) of what is good and what is bad in politics and generally – live. Certainly, those are stereotypes here, but they are supported by the common perception.

In the present situation it is not possible to achieve compromise or balance in those two ways of seeing the world. All attempts of diplomacy come to just repeating "words, words, words..." and people do not believe them anymore.
Also Kipling's great "Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet," comes to mind. Certainly, it would be easy to critisise what I am writing now, as it is certainly very simplistic and self-contradictory in a way. However, the reality on the ground proves me right.
Have you ever seen someone changing his views as a result of an argument? Well, maybe. Very rare. Even then, was it an argument and discussion that have convinced the opponent? **
For the majority of the people the change of beliefs is possible only by breaking the template completely. And the best way of doing this is hitting where it really hurts. That's a military defeat, economic collapse – change of all habits and way of life. That is what a War is about.

In the Dark Ages there was a tradition – to solve difficult court cases by a combat of two fighters, appointed by the sides. The fighters could have been hired hands or mercenaries. The side that wins was supposed to be right, because the God was helping them. Well, that is a religious approach, which may be obsolete.
But it also coinsides with a materialistic and scientific way. Practice is an ultimate criterion of truth. If one type of society becomes stronger than another type of society, then it is right.
To show that is the purpose of the war.
That was impossible for some very short historical period when it was believed that the war with the Soviet Union or Russia would escalate to a nuclear Armageddon. However, the proxy war between Russia and Ukraine can answer the question, but not to end in the terminal annihilation. The question is, certainly, what type of society is the most robust, stable and effective.
So, following the Dark Age tradition, Ukraine is a partially hired, partially lured by the false promises combatant, fighting on the side of a collective West, rich but old and weak contestant, while Russia can not afford to hire anyone, so has to fight for herself.

I would never believe if someone would have said that I could be explaining the necessity of a war. However, that is a fact of reality. And it is another "brocken template", as every Russian (especially of my generation) was tought from the childhood that the war is the worst of what may happen, and I still believe that it is true. However, as Otto von Bismarck has said,
"The great questions of the era are solved not by speeches or rulings of the majority but by iron and blood".

This year was called in Russia "the year of the lost illusions". They were not just lost, but crushed by the reality of war and peace. However, not for everyone. Many people are still trying to live their usual lives as if nothing has changed.
What actually has changed – that is over hundred sousands of dead Ukrainian soldiers, that would make millions of people to physically hate Russia and everything Russian. Having such a neighbour Russia would be able to survive only if it would change, learn the lessons and improve in the every possible way. That is an existential challenge.
That had happened in the past, when Russia was rising from the chaos, blood and devastation cleansed and strong. That will happen again.
