"Zofia Nowinska (Letters, 16 February) writes that โthe consequences of being conquered by Stalin were much worse (for Finns) than being an ally of Hitler, so they chose the lesser evilโ.
In fact, #Finland allied itself with #Nazi Germany during the second world war not to prevent Soviet conquest but to win back territories lost to the USSR as a result of the winter war of 1939-40.
The peace treaty that ended the war in March 1940 left Finnish independence intact.
It was the reckless act of joining the Nazi attack on the USSR that endangered Finlandโs national existence and cost tens of thousands of lives.
In 1944-45 the Red Army could have easily occupied Finland, but Stalin chose not to, because Finnish leaders admitted error, pledged neutrality and friendship with the Soviet Union.
Finlandisation, as it was called, enabled Finland to remain free of Soviet domination/takeover.

Here is a good map that shows the role of Ukrainian regions in wheat production. In the areas now occupied by Russian troops, one third of the Ukrainian volume was produced. In addition to its own consumption, Ukraine gave 10% of world exports. Together with Russia and Kazakhstan, it used to be one third of worlds exports. There were even proposals to create a Grain OPEC.

DETAILS OF THE MARIUPOL SURRENDER
Once all these supermen (and a few women) are collected, the total number of Ukrainian service-members in #Russian, #Donetsk, or #Lugansk custody will be approximately 7000 to 7500.
According to a very reliable Russian war correspondent, the breakdown of surrendering forces is as follows:
Over 2500 living personnel in total
Of whom, 404 wounded, of whom 55 non-ambulatory / seriously wounded
Approx. 200 refrigerated corpses
3 Russian and/or Donetsk prisoners (one officer, two soldiers) captured by Azov
Unit breakdown as follows:
The rest are mostly from remnants of the:
#53rd Brigade,
#54th Brigade,
#56th Brigade,
#36th #Brigade
as well as non-Azov personnel of the 12th Brigade of the Interior Ministryโs National Guard (military unit 3057, formal home of the Azov)
Those wounded not seriously, or not at all, are being transferred to prisons in the Donetsk republicโฆ..
โฆ..where Russian investigators intend to hold nice chats with the Azovโsโฆ..

Trial of Ukrainian Nazis and war criminals will start today Thursday 19 May 2022.
Of the Ukrainian radicals who surrendered, Denis Nuryga, the Aidar militant, will be the first to appear before the court - he is accused of blowing up a bridge in the Lugansk region in 2019, as a result of which sentries of the People's Militia of the LPR were killed.
The trial will take place on May 19 at 14:00 in the Leninsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don.

RUSSIAN DRONE AND ARTILLERY ATTACK DESTROYS UKRAINEโS NEW M777 NATO HOWITZERS
The Russian military has destroyed a number of #M777 155 mm towed #howitzers recently delivered to #Kiev forces in a coordinated attack.
The howitzers, which were deployed near the settlement of #Podgornoe, were uncovered by a drone, which immediately targeted them. The initial strike damaged two howitzers.
After the #drone strike, the howitzers were moved into a nearby wooded area. An #artillery strike hit the area, destroying the howitzers and their support equipment. Footage of the coordinated attack were released by the Russian MOD on May 18.
The howitzers supplied to Kiev forces were reportedly downgraded.
All digital fire control systems were removed from them before they were sent to Ukraine...... MORE

The video above says everything there is to say about the Ukraine and its use of bad propaganda.
This genius is passing off a destroyed #T64BM โ#Bulatโ #tank of the Ukrainian armyโeasily identifiable by the gently-sloping, add-on metal armor plates on its turretโas destroyed Russian equipment.
The tankโs main body lies off the road, near a blown-up #Gaz66 truck, which has been largely phased out of Russian army service, and is much more likely to be (or have been!) Ukrainian property.
The speaker/presenter is likely to be a #Territorial #Defense #militiaman, not a regular army soldier.
There may be Ukrainian bodies (or pieces thereof) left in that tank or nearby.
He doesnโt have a clue.
Iโve even seen a Ukrainian news crew passing off dead Ukrainian soldiers as Russian.
Itโs all a big fantasy.

He is telling us how the Western Media has completely distorted, 180 degrees, the perpetrators and victims in various war crimes he has reported on, claiming the opposite of what they know to be the truth.
The have claimed that Russians were the criminals and Ukrainians the victims when Max had already told them that the war ciminials were the Ukrainian military and the victims were Donbass civilians.
