🇨🇦 Alberta: Entain won licences for Sports Interaction and PartyCasino in Canada's newest regulated market.

🇦🇷 Buenos Aires: a bill would add 60-minute session caps, mandatory facial recognition and daily login limits.

🇪🇺 EU / Belarus: from 25 August, Belarusian owners and directors are barred from any MiCA-regulated crypto firm (CFSP 2026/1847).

🇮🇪 Ireland's New Regulator Is Four Weeks Old. It Is Already Investigating 145 Sites.

Ireland's GRAI took over gambling oversight on 1 July. Within four weeks it was investigating 145 sites owned or operated by the Soft2Bet group, all blacklisted in at least one European country.

Revenue and the Department of Justice had granted remote betting licences to six companies run by Soft2Bet or related entities. GRAI (the new regulator) issued none of them.

One of the sites, OnlySpins, ran no age or identity checks on Irish users. It went dark on 17 July.

🇨🇦 Tobique Just Added the Piece That Separates a Real Licence From a Paper One

Tobique approved iGamingADR as an independent dispute-resolution provider under its gaming framework. The same provider already covers Anjouan, Nevis and Curaçao.

Sounds small. It isn't. ADR means player disputes over withdrawals, KYC, bonuses and fairness get reviewed by a neutral third party, not just the operator's own support desk. That is the infrastructure that separates a regime taken seriously from a licence that only looks the part.

The Gambling Commission's 2026 money-laundering risk assessment flagged "insufficient scrutiny of white-label partnerships and business-to-business relationships" as a risk contributor.

🇺🇿 Uzbekistan: the regulator issued its first online licences on 31 July, to Olimpbet and Aurum Vale. The market has been legal since January 2025.

🇷🇼 Rwanda: the RDB suspended Forzza on 30 July for repeatedly running casino games on a sports-betting-only licence. Active licensees dropped from 15 to 14.

🇱🇹 Lithuania: EGBA complained to the central bank about Walletto, alleging the payment provider miscoded transactions to disguise deposits to unlicensed operators. It copied in Visa and Mastercard.

🇪🇺 Europe's Licensing Map Is Shifting, and Not All in One Direction

Two established markets are opening their doors this year, while a third is winning by keeping its narrow.

Austria has sent Brussels a draft to end its long-running online casino monopoly. Once the Commission signs off, licensed private operators can enter, with the market expected to open around 2027. Denmark reopened its casino licensing window too, its first opening to new operators this year.

The Isle of Man is playing the opposite game, and playing it well. It keeps its licence deliberately selective, and that scarcity is the point. A licence there carries weight with banks and payment partners that cheaper jurisdictions cannot match.

For operators the lesson is simple. The right European base is not the cheapest or the fastest. It is the one that matches your stage and the reputation you need to bank and process payments.

🇺🇸 US prediction markets: a Utah federal judge ruled the Commodity Exchange Act does not preempt state gambling law, letting Utah enforce against Kalshi. That is the opposite of last week's Minnesota ruling. The courts are now split.

🇺🇸 Flutter: the world's largest operator is doubling down on prediction markets, moving FanDuel Predicts' contracts to Crypto.com's exchange even as Q2 earnings slip.

🇷🇴 Romania: a new tiered tax on customer winnings took effect on 1 August, part of a fiscal package to close the budget deficit.

🇳🇱 Netherlands: Holland Casino Online won a five-year licence extension, starting 1 October.

🇳🇿 New Zealand: Super Group said it will likely bid for three of the 15 online licences on offer, the most any operator can hold. The market opens in 2027.

🇯🇲 Jamaica: the Casino Gaming Commission issued the country's first casino licence, with at least three more resort projects lining up.
