- Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district is now home to the world's first Asian King Vulture Conservation and Breeding Center (JCBC).
- Spread across 1.5 hectares, the center features modern enclosures to maintain a sustainable population of the Asian King Vulture.
- The Asian King Vulture, also known as the Red-Headed Vulture (Sarcogyps calvus), is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act and listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN Red List.
- In 2004, it was reclassified from "Least Concern" to "Near Extinction," and in 2007, it was moved to the Critically Endangered category.
- The population decline was due to the use of Diclofenac in veterinary medicine, which has since been banned in India.
