Leading aging researcher Joao Pedro de Magalhães answers the question: what are the main achievements in aging research in the 21st century?
- Rapamycin increases the lifespan of animals.
- Yamanaka factors.
- Epigenetic clock.
https://x.com/jpsenescence/status/1835028935970898400
Unfortunately, these are extremely insignificant results for a quarter of a century. The situation cannot but upset, and of course we are upset.
On the other hand, overoptimists are raging at Longevity. Their main trump card is that it is not long until AGI, and therefore immortality. This cannot but please, and of course we are happy.
The atmosphere in the field is a schizoid dichotomy: at the same time it seems that everything is lost, and at the same time that everything will be resolved soon.
So what should we do? There is a simple solution from Brian Johnson: let's go to bed on time. That is, a healthy lifestyle and stem cells, and then the superintelligence of the future will come and cure everyone.
There is also the Longevity Biotech Startup Universe.
In the third Universe they say: “Well, for God’s sake, what startups, let’s develop the theory of aging or collect more data.”
There are the fourth, fifth, sixth universes, which are related to politics, tools, roadmaps, methods, and so on.
And what about us? What does the voice of transhumanist reason say? “Everything is complicated,” it says. But it is precisely this complexity that we must rush into.
The gods of transhumanism from Berkeley believe that the most important thing is an executable philosophy: to build ethical rules into AGI at the code level so that it does not destroy us. They got an article, but did not have enough funding for global implementation.

An executable philosophy is an incredibly difficult task, and maybe try to solve iteratively? Why not start using AI for good deeds now?

There is another factor: increasing the armament of the Longevity community with AI tools to increase the influence of the community. Remember how with the advent of MidJourney we gave everyone access and helped them use it at an early stage?
Well, this work needs to continue. In this way, we will create many intelligent agents acting in favor of immortality, combining artificial intelligence with natural intelligence.

"Can AI Help You Live Longer?"
Imagine if a machine could predict when you might get sick and suggest ways to prevent it. AI is already being used to analyze vast amounts of health data to identify patterns we can't see. In fact, AI systems have been shown to predict diseases like diabetes or heart conditions *before* they happen.
One recent study by MIT used AI to predict the onset of breast cancer with 94% accuracy! This kind of innovation might help us all live healthier and longer lives by catching diseases early.
