Syriaโ€™s civil aviation chief Omar al-Husari held talks with Flynas CEO Bandar al-Muhanna, CEO of Saudi Arabiaโ€™s low-cost carrier Flynas, on implementing an agreement to establish โ€œFlynas Syriaโ€.

The two sides agreed on timelines to advance implementation and complete legal and regulatory requirements, and also agreed to resume direct Damascusโ€“Riyadh flights from April 19.

The Syrian Petroleum Company said loading of the first shipments of Iraqi fuel oil has begun at the Baniyas terminal for export via a designated tanker, citing infrastructure readiness and operational capacity.

It said the operation underscores Syriaโ€™s role as a regional energy transit corridor. Iraqโ€™s SOMO has contracted to move 650,000 metric tons of fuel oil per month through June via Syria to the Mediterranean, reinforcing its position as a transit route for exports bound for European markets amid disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz.

The Interior Ministry said security forces in Nabk, rural Damascus, foiled a plan to smuggle a large shipment of detonators intended for making explosive devices toward Lebanon.

It added that around 6,000 detonators were seized following surveillance operations that prevented the materials from reaching their destination.
