📢 Modi Govt Announces Nationwide Caste Census — First Time Since 1931!

🔹 The Centre has confirmed that caste-wise enumeration will be part of the next Census, collecting data on population, education, income, and access to welfare schemes.

🔹 Only the Union Govt can conduct an official census — though states like Bihar have done their own caste surveys, this marks the first nationwide exercise in 93 years.

🔹 Post-independence, every Census recorded only SC/ST data — while OBCs and other castes remained uncounted. The 2011 SECC attempted to collect caste data, but its results were never officially released.

🔹 This move aims to bring data-driven planning for welfare policies, identify gaps in representation, and possibly shape future reservation policies.

🔹 Opposition parties, especially the Congress, have long demanded this and have welcomed the Centre’s decision.

🛠️ Labour Day 2025 | A Reality Check 🇮🇳

Here are some eye-opening facts about child labour in India:

🔸 Over 1 crore (10 million) children aged 5–14 are engaged in child labour (Census 2011).

🔸 Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of child labourers in India.

🔸 Children mostly work in agriculture, construction, households, roadside shops, and garment factories.

🔸 Many child labourers work in hazardous jobs like firecrackers, glass, and bangle industries.

🔸 The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 bans children below 14 years from working.

🔸 Despite the ban, child labour continues due to poverty, illiteracy, and lack of enforcement.

🔸A large number of child labourers are not in school and lose their chance at education.

🔸 COVID-19 increased the risk of child labour due to school closures and financial stress in families.

Kids are pillars of the nation, send them to get an education. Stop child labour!
