Justice Sanjiv Khanna, the 51st Chief Justice of India, retired today after a brief but impactful tenure of 6 months. He made headlines not just for key judgments but also for his dignified exit from the judiciary.

➡️ Tenure Duration: Took charge as CJI on 11 November 2024 and retired on 13 May 2025, upon turning 65.

🔸 His appointment marks a powerful step toward greater representation and inclusivity in the legal system. 🌟✊

Remembering Professor Shamnad Basheer on his birth anniversary. He was a legal scholar, social reformer, and visionary, his contributions continue to inspire many in law and education.

🔺 Born on May 14, 1976, in Kulathupuzha, Kerala, Shamnad Basheer made a lasting impact on intellectual property law in India.

🔺 He founded SpicyIP, one of India’s leading blogs on intellectual property law, and created a platform for legal discourse.

🔺 He established the Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA) initiative to provide legal education opportunities to underprivileged students.

🔺 He was the MHRD Chair Professor of Intellectual Property Law at WBNUJS and a visiting professor at George Washington University Law School.

🔺 Professor Basheer passed away on August 8, 2019, at the age of 43 in a tragic incident during a silent retreat.

The proposal aims to make legal education more accessible, reduce time and financial burden on students, and bring India's legal education in line with global standards of a 4-year undergraduate law degree.

🔹 What are the concerns?
Critics argue that shortening the program could compromise the quality of legal education, reducing opportunities for internships and specialization that are crucial for a successful law career.

🔹 Current Status:
The Supreme Court has not yet made a final decision but has tagged the matter with another case regarding LL.M. courses. More discussions are expected before any changes are implemented.
