Update:
'VACANT' word has been used the in the second merit list.

It means:
The particular student has been upgraded to his/her higher preference list or has withdrawn, thereby leaving his seat as vacant which has been taken up by another student whose name mentioned in the individual lists right at the start.
Eg. Udisha has been allotted NUJS in the second list whereas she had NLUJ in the first list.
So now, NLUJ shows her seat as vacant whereas NUJS has her name at the start (along with all others who have been upgraded).


It does NOT mean:
1. That anyone can now apply for/grab the vacant seats.

IMP:
The 'vacant' seats which most of us are looking for are the ones which are declared by the colleges, individually once the CLAT Counselling gets over.

Principle: A contract of bailment is where one person leaves his goods in the control of the other person for a specific period upon the expiry of which they shall be returned.
Facts: Nick had a safety deposit locker with a bank where Henry was the manager. All lockers required two keys to be opened, of which one was with the customer and the other was with the manager. One day when Nick came to operate his locker, Henry fraudulently severed the lock pertaining to Nick's key thereby ensuring that the locker required only one key to be opened. That night he made off with all of Nick's valuables.

Decide.
a. The goods were left in the control of the bank and thus they are responsible for the loss.
b. The principle of vicarious liability will ensure that the bank was liable for Henry's act.
c. The fact that the customer had one key without which the locker could not be operated meant that the goods were not in the control of the bank and thus the bank is not liable.
d. Since Henry severed the customer's lock and since he was the employ of the bank which thus came into full control of the locker, the bank is liable.
