Paralysis of the gluteus maximus does not seriously affect walking on level ground. Verify this by placing your hand on your buttocks when walking slowly. The gluteus maximus contracts only briefly during the earliest part of the stance phase (from heel strike to when the foot is flat on the ground, to resist further flexion as weight is assumed by the partially flexed limb). If you climb stairs and put your hands on your buttocks, you will feel the gluteus maximus contract strongly.

They have the same nerve supply (superior gluteal nerve), and the same arterial supply (superior gluteal artery).

Tensor fasciae latae

It lies laterally to the thigh and it attaches to the iliotibial tract. Although it shares a common attachment, innervation, and blood supply with other extensor muscles (it's served by the superior gluteal neurovascular bundle), but it's generally considered a flexor of the thigh cuz of its anterior location

In cases of paralysis of iliopsoas muscle, the TFL muscle undergoes hypertrophy to compensate.

It also works in conjunction with G. minimus & medius (abdouctors & medial rotators of the thigh), so it's generally considered to be synergist or fixator muscle
