البكتيريا المسبّبة لمرض الجذام Leprosy إسمها M. leprae وهي من أقارب البكتيريا المسببة للسل الرئوي. هالبكتيريا تشبه الفايروسات من حيث أنها ما تكدر تعيش وتتكاثر خارج الخلايا الحية (يسموها obligate intracellular). لهذا ما نكدر نزرعها بـ culture.
