02. ARITTAPATTI BIODIVERSITY HERITAGE SITE

Why in news?

Recently, the Tamil Nadu Government issued a notification of declaring Arittapatti in Melur block, Madurai district, a Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS). It is Tamil Nadu’s 1ST and India’s 35th Biodiversity Heritage Site

About Arittapatti Site:
 The site is situated in an area of 193.21 hectare and is the first Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS) to be notified in the state, Arittapatti and Meenakshipuram villages in the Madurai district.
 The Arittapatti village is surrounded by a chain of seven barren granite hillocks that act as a watershed and support close to 72 lakes, 200 natural spring pools and three check dams. \
 The Anaikondan lake built during the reign of the Pandiyas in the 16th century is one among them.
 The village has a rich biological and historical significance with the presence of around 250 bird species, including three flagship raptor species – Laggar Falcon (Falco jugger), Shaheen Falcon (Falco peregrinus) and Bonelli’s Eagle (Aquila fasciata) and wildlife such as Indian Pangolin (Manis crassicaudata), Python (Python molurus) and Slender Loris (Loris spp).
 The site also features various megalithic structures, Tamil Brahmi Inscriptions, Jain Beds and 2200-year-old rock-cut temples adding to its historical value.
 According to an order issued by Supriya Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary, Environment, Climate Change and Forest, the notification will strengthen the biodiversity and conservation efforts with the participation of local communities.
 It was added that the initiatives will also help preserve the rich biological and historical repository of the area.

03. ROZGAR MELA & KARMYOGI PRARAMBH

Why in news?

Recently, As part of the government’s 'Rozgar Mela' (employment fair), the Prime Minister has distributed over 71,000 appointment letters to new recruits via video conferencing. The Prime Minister has also launched the ‘Karamyogi Prarambh’, a special online orientation course designed for new appointees in government departments.

About Rozgar Mela:
 To give impetus to the employment initiatives in the country, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Govt. of India has been organizing Rozgar Melas across the nation for providing suitable job opportunities in private sector to the unemployed youth.
 With initiatives like Rozgar Melas, the Government is ensuring a parallel growth in the private/ industrial sector.
 There is no end to the potential for industry to flourish across the States with big corporates partnering the government and pledging to invest.
 A NSDC Rozgar Mela is a 1/2-day event where several employers and job seekers come together for the purpose of applying and interviewing for jobs.
 Defined more precisely, a Rozgar Mela is an employment strategy to fast-track the meeting of job seekers and employers.
 For the execution of Rozgar Melas, NSDC seeks support from the respective Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) & Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKKs) for sourcing the employers i.e. private companies for the Rozgar Mela. Generally, a Rozgar Mela witnesses the participation on an average of 40-50 employers from 10-12 high economic growth sectors.
 These sectors are generally identified based on the aspiration of youth & availability of industries in the target State or the nearby areas.
 These Rozgar Melas generally cater to the youth in the age group of 18-35 Years with an academic qualification covering 8th/10th/12th Pass, ITI, Diploma, Graduates etc. including the trained and certified candidates conforming to National Skills Qualifications Framework.
 The jobseekers for the Rozgar Mela are sensitized & mobilized through various channels including Print Advertisement, Bulk SMS, Social Media & through workshops at College & University Level in & around the districts of the Rozgar Mela.


About Karamyogi Prarambh:
 The Karmayogi Prarambh module is an initiative under the Mission Karmayogi.
 It is an online orientation course for the new recruits of various government departments.
 It will help new government employees to understand the code of conduct required to adapt to the new role.
 Ethics in the workplace, integrity, human resource policies and other benefits, allowances, etc., are some of the topics focused on by the module.
 The objective of this online orientation programme is to keep the essence of civil service within the people of the country.

1) Located in Hayat Pitafi, Ghotki district, in Sindh province(eastern pakistan), Shadani Darbar is believed to one of the biggest Hindu temple in Pakistan’s Sindh province.
2) It was founded in 1786 by Sant Shadaram Sahib, whose birth anniversary the pilgrims are travelling to celebrate every year.
3) According to the temple’s own website, Sant Shadaram was born in a Lohana khatri family in Lahore (Current Pakistan) in October.
4) It is believed that the anyone who takes the blessings of the Dhuni Sahib and drinks the holy water of the well is delivered from his own sufferings and misfortunes.

Why in news?

Recently, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry has launched a call for startup applications for registration on the Mentorship, Advisory, Assistance, Resilience and Growth (MAARG) portal.

About MAARG Portal:
MAARG refers to Mentorship, Advisory, Assistance, Resilience and Growth (MAARG). It is a one-stop platform that enables mentorship for startups across a variety of industries, roles, stages, locations, and backgrounds. In order to further strengthen the Indian startup ecosystem, which is now the third largest in the world, Startup India is concentrating on igniting the culture of startups and creating a robust and equitable ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship in India.

The objectives of the MAARG portal:
 To provide sector focused guidance, handholding, and support to startups throughout their lifecycle
 To establish a formalized and structured platform that facilitates intelligent matchmaking between the mentors and their respective mentees
 To facilitate efficient and expert mentorship for startups and build an outcome-oriented mechanism that allows timely tracking of the mentor-mentee engagements
 Startups can now effectively connect with academicians, industry experts, successful founders, seasoned investors, and other experts from across the globe, through Artificial Intelligence (AI) based matchmaking, to get personalized guidance on growth and strategy.
 The key features of the portal include customizable mentorship programs for ecosystem enablers, mobile-friendly user interface, recognition for contributing mentors, video and audio call options, etc.

02. GARUDA SHAKTI

Why in news?

Recently, Indian Army Special Forces and Indonesian Special Forces are participating in the eighth edition of the bilateral military exercise ‘Garuda Shakti’ at Karawang, Indonesia that commenced on 21 November 2022.

About Garuda Shakti:
 The exercise aims at enhancing understanding, cooperation and interoperability between the Special Forces of both armies.
 The scope of the joint exercise includes orientation to advance special forces skills, sharing of information on weapon, equipment, innovations, tactics, techniques & procedures and lessons learnt from various operations undertaken, Special Forces Operations in Jungle terrain, strikes on terrorist camps and a validation exercise integrating basic and advance special forces skills apart from gaining an insight into the lifestyle and culture of both countries to foster military cooperation.
 The joint training would also focus on a high degree of physical fitness, tactical drills, techniques and procedures for which a comprehensive 13-day training programme has been worked out.
 The exercise will culminate in a 48-hour long validation exercise.
 The joint exercise will facilitate both armies to know each other better, and share their wide experiences and combat experience on countering terrorist operations, Regional Security Operations & Peace Keeping Operations in an international environment.
 The exercise is yet another significant milestone in ensuring cordial relations between the two countries and another step forward towards ensuring regional security.

1) The test of the Agni-3 was a part of routine user training launches which was performed under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command.
2) Agni-3 was 1st tested on 9 July 2006. However, that time it was not a successful launch.
3) The missile test-fired successfully on its 2nd flight which took place in 2007.
4) The missile also performed as per the standards in its 3rd consecutive launch which took place in 2008.
5) The 16-meter-long missile, weight has more than 48 tonnes, has a range of over 3000 kilometers and is capable of carrying a payload of over 1.5 tonnes.
6) Due to its unique high range of circular error probable (CEP), the Agni-3 missile is known as the one of the world's most accurate strategic ballistic missile of its range class.
7) With a very high range of efficiency in its target, the warhead can be a high lethal weapon for the enemy.
