Senator Kelly Townsend responds to the Attorney General's opinion on the illegal actions taken by the City of Tucson regarding compulsory vaccination of city workers.

Today, the Attorney General rightfully issued an opinion that the City of Tucson’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for public employees does violate state law. I am relieved that this opinion is now issued, and that public employees have further grounds to not only preserve their ability to make medical decisions for themselves without illegal coercion from the government, but that they have a stronger defense when seeking damages, if necessary.

It is imperative that we not only respect the rule of law, but that we not allow our fear of a virus to run roughshod over the rights of the citizens of Arizona. I therefore call on Regina Romero to immediately cease and desist imposing her lack of respect of the law onto the employees of the City of Tucson. I further encourage those who were forced into taking a COVID-19 vaccine against their will in order to maintain employment to seek damages and to hold her fully accountable for this illegal act.

I wish to thank the Attorney General for his response and I encourage every elected official and bureaucrat to remember that it is the people of this State that employ us and whom we answer to, not the other way around.

Regarding Arizona's audit: keeping in mind this is the first one like this ever done, there are two things that were not done that I believe should have been part of the official audit. I did ask for the federal only voters who cannot prove that they are legal citizen of the state or that they even exist, should be audited. I did manage to get into the budget provision that an external group can come in and perform a test to check the names against other databases of people here illegally but that is currently being challenged in court. The other thing that I would have liked to have seen as part of an official audit process was the canvassing of neighborhoods but I understand that it complicated our audit. I hope that we perform that as a second audit once the first audit is complete. With that, I hope the other states, as they move forward with their audit will take a look at these things in addition to the other issues we are looking at currently.

On September 11th, 2001, most of our church's pastors were in Israel, at the airport, waiting to board their plane to come home. Unfortunately they could not due to the events in New York City and other places in our country and were stranded there. Many of us back home were panicking for their safety and I myself was wringing my hands and crying worried that we would lose them. We later found out that when they learned of the towers being hit, Pastor Jim pulled out his guitar and they all began to Worship the Lord. They had perfect peace while we were crying for their safety. That taught me is significant lesson in life. In Times like today, we need to go to our knees in worship.
