At 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, Dalia, 38, was at a gym down the street from her home in the Karakas neighborhood in central Beirut when a series of massive airstrikes rocked the city.
One of the strikes hit just up the street, along the stretch of road between her apartment and the gym—a route she walks every day.
The blast was so forceful it shook the building and left her ears ringing for hours. Her first thought was her daughter, who was at a basketball court across the street.
When Dalia ran outside, she immediately saw thick smoke rising in the air. She sprinted to the court and found her daughter crying alongside other children.
“All the children were traumatized,” she said.
The strikes were part of a sweeping Israeli aerial bombardment campaign across Lebanon on Wednesday that came just hours after a U.S.-Iran ceasefire agreement was announced by President Donald Trump.
In a span of 10 minutes, Israel hit over 100 targets across the country, including many in densely populated neighborhoods of Beirut and its southern suburbs.
According to Lebanon’s Civil Defense, at least 254 people were killed and over 1,100 wounded in the attacks. The vast majority of the casualties were in the capital and its southern suburbs, with over 150 killed.

The real racists!
Automatic registration into the U.S. military draft pool for eligible men is slated to begin in December, following efforts from lawmakers and the selective service agency to streamline the previous self-registration process.
The Selective Service System, the federal agency that maintains a database of registered U.S. males who are considered draft-eligible in the event of a national emergency, submitted a proposed rule to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs on March 30, according to the office’s dashboard.
Automatic registration into Selective Service was mandated in December 2025, when President Donald Trump signed into law the fiscal year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, the agency’s website says.
“This statutory change transfers responsibility for registration from individual men to SSS through integration with federal data sources,” the website reads.
Putting the effort in motion by this December is a move to simplify the registration process and the equivalent “workforce realignment,” according to the website.

Spain and Italy have demanded explanations from Israel after the country’s soldiers in Lebanon detained a Spanish United Nations peacekeeper and fired warning shots at an Italian convoy.
The incidents mark another low point in Israel’s relations with Europe, already severely damaged by the war in Gaza and now further strained by the country’s ongoing military campaign in Lebanon.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated on Wednesday that Italy “demands full respect for the role of UNIFIL” after Italian U.N. peacekeepers were “the subject of warning shots fired by the IDF.”
Later in the day, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed Italy’s solidarity with Lebanon regarding “unjustified and unacceptable attacks it is suffering from Israel.”
“We want to prevent a second Gaza,” he added.
Italy summoned the Israeli ambassador — a diplomatic move used to express extreme dissatisfaction — to explain the incident. That option is no longer available to Spain, as Israel has already withdrawn its ambassador from Madrid, with the Spanish government following suit last month.
Israel’s diplomatic representation in Spain is handled by its chargé d’affaires, Dana Elrich, a lower-ranking official.
The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Elrich “to protest the unjustifiable detention of a Spanish soldier from UNIFIL by the Israeli army.”

Sea Change: 'Very Unfavorable' Views of Israel Triple Among US Adults
Amid a major war on Iran waged in partnership with the United States, Israel's reputation among Americans has continued to deteriorate, with 60% of US adults viewing Israel unfavorably. That's a hefty 18-point increase from 2022, according to a new survey from Pew Research. Over the same stretch, Israel's "favorable" share cratered by 18 points.
While the top-line unfavorable rating is bad news for Israel, things are even worse when you look under the hood: The proportion of Americans who have a very unfavorable view of Israel now stands at 28% -- triple what it was in 2022.
Alongside his country's sagging standing with the US public, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is also increasingly unpopular, as 59% of American adults have little or no trust that he will "do the right thing regarding world affairs," also a seven-point worsening from last year's finding.
Pew conducted the survey during the week of March 23-29, roughly a month into the US-Israeli war on Iran, but a few weeks before this week's brinksmanship --which had many fearing a years-long global economic catastrophe if President Trump followed through on his threats to eradicate Iran's "whole civilization" and Iran carried out its promised destruction of energy and water infrastructure around the Persian Gulf.
There continue to be significant differences between Americans who associate themselves with the Democratic Party and those who are Republicans or Republican "leaners." A whopping 80% of Democrats have an unfavorable or very unfavorable view of Israel, almost doubling the 41% of Republicans who feel that way. In what may be the most significant sub-trend in US-Israeli politics, a solid 57% majority of Republicans under age 50 now have a negative view of Israel. Unless that turns around, this suggests that the GOP's status as a fortress of Israeli support will soon be a thing of the past.
