In a phone call on Wednesday with Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Araghchi outlined Iran’s “responsible approach” in accepting mediators’ proposals for a ceasefire aimed at paving the way for negotiations to permanently end the war.
“Israeli attacks against Lebanon are an evil act by the Zionist regime to continue war in the region and sabotage diplomacy, the consequences of which will fall on the United States,” Araghchi said.
He also elaborated on war crimes committed by the United States and Israel during 40 days of military aggression against Iran, stressing that all countries bear responsibility to condemn such actions and demand accountability.
Referring to international law, Araghchi underscored the prohibition on supporting aggressors and highlighted the responsibility of all parties involved, directly or indirectly, in acts of aggression against Iran.
He further noted that halting Israeli military operations against Lebanon was part of the Iran-US ceasefire, a point also emphasized by Pakistan’s prime minister.
Araghchi warned that repeated US breaches of commitments have led to widespread global distrust of Washington’s actions.
Kombos, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, welcomed the ceasefire and stressed the need for all sides to adhere to it while prioritizing diplomacy.
