There are certain types of projects.

A genuine utility token

• The token is actually required to access a product or service.
Example: paying for storage, computation, governance, transaction fees, etc.

The service would be less functional without the token.


A service with a token attached

•The service could operate perfectly well without the token.

The token is added mainly for fundraising, speculation, marketing, or
community building.
Many projects fall into this category.


A token pretending to have utility

•The project launches a coin first.

Later, vague "utilities" are announced to justify the token's existence.

The service often generates little real demand for the token.
Sometimes the utility is mostly marketing rather than economic necessity.

And then the last type of token;

• Plain bullshit
It starts with vague words like we're so bullish, let's fucking go, we're all going to make it.
You need someone to buy the top in order to sell the top.

One can argue about which of these projects survives and which doesn't. Success depends on many factors beyond utility alone.

More interesting is how easily one category can present itself as another.

Where do you draw the line as a founder?
Is there still room for morality in business, or is everything justified by the market?

To deceive others, you must first convince yourself that you're right.

To brainwash others, you must first be brainwashed.
