A family member completed 3 months of his salaried life & decided to start his term insurance today.

He will pay ~₹75,000 (after discount) annually for next 5 yrs. And if in case he passes away before age 75, his family will get ₹1.5 crores.

This ₹75k can be claimed under Section 80C, so tax deductible. His EPF is around ₹50k. So he will put the rest ₹25k in an ELSS Mutual Fund.

So total ₹1.5 lakh tax slab reduced and with that he now has safe EPF investment, risky ELSS investment and a term life insurance cover.

Most things covered for him. Very important for everyone to have a health and term insurance.

As usual, continuing my monthly SIP in ELSS Fund to get tax benefit at the end of this year. Most make the mistake to invest entire amount in Feb or March to claim tax.

Today invested ₹14,000 in Parag Parikh Tax Saver Fund (PPFAS).

Out of the top 3 most traded ETFs today, 2 were Nifty IT ETFs. Also out of the top 7 most traded ETFs today, 3 were Nifty IT ETFs.

(1) Nippon India's ITBEES
(2) ICICI Pru's ICICITECH
(3) Kotak's KOTAKIT

Today was probably a record day for Nifty IT ETFs.

When Parag Parikh Mutual Fund says that they hold 11.90% of their portfolio in cash, many think it is just in a bank account earning nothing.

No.

PPFAS & most other mutual funds actually keep cash in Tri-Party Repo (TREPS). That means the cash is earning a 6-7% yield (return).

Got the allotment for ₹14,000 that I invested yesterday in Parag Parikh Tax Saver Mutual Fund (PPFAS).

Got 663.006 units allotted. As usual, will keep accumulating more units every month (will cap it below ₹1.5 lakh annually considering PF & Term Insurance)

₹75k because it has an additional critical health cover added. So he gets additional health consultation. Also he pays for 5 years only. Not every year for life.

He could have reduced the premium by increasing the paying years from 5 to 10 yrs. But he decided to go for 5 yrs.
