Short personal win.

I am not generally happy with beverages in shops. I like ginger ale, but it's sugary and usually fake. I've tried much better ginger ale with real ginger and cane sugar, but it's still basically expensive tasty sugar water. And consuming loads of suger isn't healthy, even though I think I benefit at times from sugar/glucose (maybe because I may have prediabates, or maybe from a lack of eating better in general. Food costs, especially out in public or without a kitchen or similar.

Beyond water, when out, I often drink sweetened flavored milk or similar like soymilk; at least these have some protein and fat, but that is all something to unpack later.

So the win is, I noticed cheap ($1.50) packets of fresh ginger at Trader Joe's a while back, and I tried peeling it and putting slices in plain selzer. And WOW, this is the ginger drink I've been searching for.

And I started thinking to just find loose fresh ginger, so I did that this evening (at Whole Foods) and I got even more ginger for just $1.

So I thought, how did I miss this for so long. And I researched recipes. But most use (relatively) complicated methods like using blenders or food processors, cheesecloth, cooking the ginger in some water. All adding sugar. And all could have benefits and be good, but living in shared housing I try to minimize being in the kitchen to heating things.

But just the sliced ginger in selzer is simple, quick, and amazing. And I can do that in my room.

Some recipes suggest adding lime juice which I've thought of and could be even better.

And at Whole Foods, I also noticed fresh turmeric root and I was curious about that, so I researched and that could be good also.
