👨‍💻 We prepared some Halloween surprises for you, but it seems someone doesn’t want us to celebrate. Telegram's latest update has been stuck in Apple Review for more than a week, and we have not been informed about the current reason for the delay ⛔️

Apple claims they review apps within 24 hours, but, in our experience, it takes at least 7-10 days for any meaningful product update to reach the App Store. My friends who run smaller apps tell me it's even worse for them, as they have to wait more than a month just to ship bug fixes to their Apple users 😵‍💫

However, positive change is coming. Tomorrow, a new set of laws called the Digital Markets Act will come into force in the European Union. This regulation should put an end to the abuse of market power by gatekeepers like Apple and Google.

We, the developers, should start relying on the DMA to defend ourselves and our users. If you are an app developer who faces issues with the App Store or Google Play, let me know about it at pavel@telegram.org from your company e-mail address with the word "DMA" in the title. It will be up to Apple to decide if they want to spend their resources on improving their processes — or on fines.

While this channel has been a little quiet for the last three months, the app continued to evolve.

🎉 Today, WebK introduces a redesigned Emoji and Sticker Panel – try the collapsible section for default emoji categories and the scrollable bar for your custom emoji sets.

The new Panel features a beautiful blur effect on most desktop browsers and allows you to send or edit messages containing custom emoji. (All users can try out this feature in their Saved Messages). Copy and paste are also available.

In the Stickers tab, you can now add or remove stickers from favorites, send without sound or individually delete them from the Recents section.

🔎 Preview Stickers and Emoji
You can now get a closer look at stickers and emoji, both in the panel and in chats. Click and hold, then hover your cursor over the one you'd like to see in better detail.

Stickers are now rendered more efficiently, using fewer resources and saving battery. Custom Emoji have also had more improvements since their launch in late August.

⚡️ Downloading Files
The download flow has been reworked from scratch. When you download something, the app uses your connection in the most efficient way possible. Premium users will notice how dramatically fast the app downloads files for them – a little demo is available here.

Large files of up to 4 GB are now supported for both upload and download. There is also support for native downloading in certain browsers – your browser will place active downloads on the instrument bar.

💸 Payments 2.0
Significant optimizations were added to smoothly process payments in any browser, and adding familiar functionality from other Telegram apps. Bot payments, @donate invoices and more are supported – including the ability to subscribe to Telegram Premium with @PremiumBot.

Dozens of bug fixes were also made to the app – but those can be a bit boring to read. If you ever come across a bug in the app, make sure to let us know on the Bugs and Suggestions Platform.

Sono particolarmente entusiasta dell'aggiornamento di Telegram di oggi. Aggiunge topic ai gruppi di grandi dimensioni, trasformando queste chat lineari in versioni mobile-friendly dei vecchi forum su Internet.

Ironia della sorte, anche il primo servizio Internet popolare che ho costruito circa 20 anni fa era un forum Internet: una bacheca per gli studenti della mia università, che alla fine è cresciuta fino a diventare il più grande portale studentesco della regione.

🏆 Telegram X Android Competition, Round 2: Results

In this round, there were 11 contestants who contributed to 3 separate features for Telegram X:

Channel Comments + Message Threads – 4 submissions
The ‘Send As’ feature – 5 submissions
Improved Search – 4 submissions

While we strongly advised focusing on a single feature to achieve the highest level of quality, several competitors did try 2 or even all 3. We were pleasantly suprised by the skills of Dreamy Crab, who succeeded in implementing 2 well-polished features.

As stated in the announcement, there is only a single nomination per feature – each of the contestants listed below will shortly receive a 70% payout. For the next 2 weeks they can continue improving their apps and fixing any bugs with the help of the Telegram X community once they arrive on the beta. After that, they will receive the remaining 30% of their prize.

While testing the submissions and evaluating the entries' code, we focused on the following criteria: code consistency, overall app stability and how precisely the the provided design was followed.

Here are the winners:

The judges unanimously noted 2 other entries – we would like to award ✨Modest Dolphin a bonus prize of $1,000 for a solid attempt at implementing the ‘Send As’ feature. ✨Busy Raсcoon also earns $1,000 for their implementation of Channel Comments – they added a beautiful animation for previewing comments.

🏆 Telegram iOS Contest 2022, Round 1: Results

We were pleased to see 68 developers, both newcomers and accomplished contest veterans, participate in this competition to implement a feature-rich media editor from scratch.

For such a complex task with a tough deadline, many contestants delivered solid apps. However, no submissions in this round qualified for🥇1st place. For this reason, we will be giving smaller rewards to a larger than usual number of apps. Congratulations to the winners – the number of people on today’s podium indicates a growing community of skilled programmers.

Remember, winning Telegram Contests is the only way to join the Telegram Team.

When evaluating the entries, we first rated how well an app implemented the minimum requirements, then separately reviewed any of its extra features. Smooth, high-quality drawing was the top priority.
